InterContinental New York Times Square Celebrates Third Anniversary
With a commitment to the local community since the property’s inception, the hotel commemorates its third birthday -- having officially opened its doors on July 12, 2010 -- with achievements including LEED certification, two Rooftop Apiaries, partnerships with nonprofit organizations such Central Park Conservancy and strong ties to the Broadway Community.

Since opening, InterContinental New York Times Square has maintained a commitment to the environment, which continues to be upheld today. After only two years of operation the hotel was recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) as a LEED Certified property. This internationally-acclaimed recognition is bestowed upon properties that are designed and built using strategies aimed at achieving high performance in key areas of sustainability such as sustained site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. In 2012 when the status was officially received, the hotel was dubbed the nation’s largest new-build hotel to achieve LEED status.

The eco-conscious Times Square property also includes two green rooftops that house low-maintenance and drought-tolerant plants to retain heat in the winter and absorb the warmth of strong sunlight in the summer. In addition to a fully-functioning herb garden, the hotel’s 7th floor rooftop is also home to the property’s beehive, which produced over 60 pounds of locally sourced honey last year -- making for a sweet addition to the hotel’s restaurant and cocktail menus as well as a buzz-worthy note in the hotel’s history!

In keeping with the property’s commitment and dedication to the local community, the hotel’s leadership team will honor the third anniversary with ‘A Day in the Dirt’-- Central Park Conservancy’s program designed for non-profit groups to participate in horticulture and maintenance projects throughout New York’s famed park. In addition to the Central Park Conservancy, the hotel has worked diligently in the last three years to forge and sustain meaningful partnerships with local institutions such as Food Bank NYC, City Harvest and the Woman’s Shelter. With its address in the heart of the Theater District, the property also maintains strong ties with the Broadway League, having had the honor of hosting the Tony’s Nominee Luncheon for three consecutive years.

To commemorate many more successful years in maintaining a strong commitment to both the environment and the local community, this Friday, July 12th and Saturday July 13th the InterContinental New York Times Square invites guests and locals alike to celebrate the hotel’s third anniversary with a special $3.00 “Tres Chic” cocktail (limit one per person) in the property’s Ça Va Brasserie by Todd English. Participants are encouraged to “Toast with Us,” following @IC_TimesSquare, with hashtag #ToisChic.

The InterContinental New York Times Square boasts 607 guestrooms in the heart of the world-famous Broadway Theater district and serves as a refreshing sanctuary from the bustling streets of New York City. The property is also home to Ça Va, a Todd English restaurant; 10,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space, including a 4,000-square foot Gotham Ballroom, and 10 smaller meeting rooms on one designated floor. Located at the top of the hotel, its three-bedroom 2,700 square-foot bi-level Penthouse boasts dramatic two-story floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows for a spectacular view of the city.
