The Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa reopened the Anara Spa in April 2008, following an expansion and renovation. At over 45,000 square feet, it is the largest spa on Kauai and second largest in the state of Hawaii. Among the new elements are a garden area and open-air treatment hales (thatched roof bungalows) appointed with teak and quartz, each featuring its own exclusive lava rock shower and steam grotto. Each hale is named after a traditional healing plant that grows in the garden and is used in the treatments. Two are designed for couples' treatments. An open-air Vichy treatment room was also added, along with two lava rock botanical baths, a relaxation room, and an open-air hale for fitness classes, yoga, and personal training. Existing treatment rooms, each opening to its own private garden, were completely renovated with native koa wood cabinetry. The fitness center, open 24/7, was expanded by 900 square feet, allowing for additional cardio and strength equipment
