3 New York Restaurants make World's Top 10 for the first time
A total of nine New York restaurants feature in the Elite Traveler Top 100 Restaurants in the World this year, the most of any city - up from six restaurants in 2014. The capital appears ahead of global rivals Paris (8), London (5), San Francisco (3) and Chicago (2) and helps the USA take the title of the world's top country for fine dining for the first time with 19 restaurants.

Leading the charge for The Big Apple is Daniel Humm who receives a hat-trick of awards including the prestigious title of Chef of the Year, fourth place on the list with his restaurant Eleven Madison Park and a new entry for his NoMad Hotel restaurant at number 89. Two other New York restaurants also make the top 10: Thomas Keller's Per Se (7) and upmarket seafood restaurant Le Bernardin (9).

A delighted Humm said: “It's very humbling to receive such an honor, especially one voted on by the diners. Our team works incredibly hard and this accomplishment validates all that work and intensity. It will inspire us to work even harder, to push one another, and to strive for perfection even more.”

The list reflects a culinary renaissance in the city, which has embraced the fine dining scene's recent shift to a more casual and dynamic approach.

In first place overall was Chicago's Alinea, a progressive, molecular gastronomy-led restaurant which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year. On receiving the award, Head Chef Grant Achatz said: "I think a lot of the other ratings systems and guidebooks are taking note. Because, quite honestly, a lot of chefs tend to complain about the unfairness of certain systems and I think it's really refreshing to have an evaluation based on people's experience when you don't even know that they're in the restaurant."
