An Update on Big Sur & California Highway 1 for Summer Travel
In Monterey County, visitors can travel down the 26 miles of breathtaking coastline from the Monterey Peninsula to Big Sur Village. Hotels, restaurants and shops north of Pfeiffer Canyon Bridge are open for business and welcoming guests!

There are a number of options and great places to stay from the dreamy Big Sur Cabin at Glen Oaks to a suite on the river at the Big Sur River Inn and Restaurant to sleeping under the stars at Fernwood Resort. There are also hiking trails available on the coast at Garrapata State Park or among the majestic redwoods at Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park.

Guests traveling from the south, through San Luis Obispo County (SLO CAL) can experience virtually their entire Highway 1 coastline. From the Oceano sand dunes and Classic Pismo Beach in the south, to the majestic Hearst Castle and scenic cliffs of Ragged Point in the north.

Tourists taking the iconic Original Road Trip along the coastline will still be able enjoy pristine beaches, world-famous wineries, rustic campsites and some delicious noshing along the way. There are several things to see and do when you take the detour from CA Highway 1 to the undiscovered Highway 101 through the rolling hills of wine country in Paso Robles. Further north, attractions along the detour include the San Miguel Mission, Pinnacles National Park, National Steinbeck Center and wine tasting rooms in Salinas Valley.

An updated list of businesses, campsites, hiking trails as well as attractions that are currently accessible along with a map that highlights the affected area is available for Monterey County at seemonterey.com, and for San Luis Obispo County at SLOCAL.com. While the road repairs are underway, visitors will still be able to make the most of California's Original Road Trip.
