Hideaway Report Awards Top Luxury Hotels in the World
Readers of Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report typically travel 38 days a year for leisure, with the average trip spanning 11 days.

This year's Readers' Choice Awards boast 132 hotels in 114 destinations. The winners are featured in the September issue of Andrew Harper's Hideaway Report.

Italy, France and England remain the three favorite foreign countries of Hideaway Report readers. However, this year's survey also demonstrated the appeal of exotic destinations such as Cambodia, Fiji and Botswana.

Amazingly, Post Ranch Inn, Big Sur, California (pictured above), is the No. 1 U.S. hideaway for the seventh year in a row. Other familiar names include Auberge du Soleil, San Ysidro Ranch and Twin Farms.

Said Mr. Harper: "As ever, our annual survey revealed classic properties that are enduring favorites of Hideaway Report subscribers, places such as Post Ranch Inn on Big Sur, Twin Farms in Vermont, The Lowell on New York's Upper East Side and, farther afield, Singita Boulders Lodge in South Africa's Sabi Sand Game Reserve. This year, however, readers' favorite international hideaway was a surprise, with Eden Rock – St Barths having rocketed to the top of the list. I was pleased to see that Ballyfin Demesne, a superb country house hotel in southern Ireland, received due recognition. In general, subscribers tend to prefer traditional properties, such as The Goring in London, but they are also willing to be more adventurous, hence the appearance of Jack's Camp in the Kalahari Desert high on the list of favorite safari lodges and camps. Much of the pleasure I derive from editing The Hideaway Report stems from the awareness that my readers are active travelers – who typically vacation an average of 38 days a year – with both the inclination and the financial means to follow in my footsteps. If I review a hotel or resort favorably, I know that before long, Hideaway Report readers will begin to arrive. That knowledge is a privilege and a pleasure, but also a responsibility that I take extremely seriously."
