About The Ansel Adams Exhibit

Portfolio II - “The National Parks & Monuments”: Over the course of his long and storied career, Ansel Adams produced seven limited-edition portfolios, the first being in 1948 and the last in 1976, referring to the 90 photographs all told as “an excellent cross section of my work.” Released by Adams in 1950, Portfolio II contains many of Adams' most iconic images. From California and Alaska to Tennessee and Maine, Portfolio II contains photographs from national parks all over the country, reflecting Adams' passion for preserving and protecting those areas for generations to come. Famous images such as Zabriskie Point, Death Valley National Monument California and Moth and Stump, Interglacial Forest, Glacier Bay National Park helped to spur on the conservation movement in the United States.

The exhibit features 15 silver gelatin prints mounted on board, printed in 1950. The complete portfolio is on sale for $125,000, with a percentage of the proceeds to benefit Turning Green and Golden Gate Parks Conservancy. The mission of Golden Gate Parks Conservancy is to preserve the Golden Gate National Parks, enhance the park visitor experience, and build a community dedicated to conserving the parks for the future. Based in Marin, Turning Green is a student-led global movement devoted to education and advocacy around environmentally sustainable and socially responsible choices for individuals, schools, and communities.
