Antigua's Carlisle Bay Announces UNESCO Boat Tour

Antigua's Carlisle Bay Announces UNESCO Boat Tour
The new offering, which includes a private tour of the dockyard and transport via luxury yacht, marks the one-year anniversary of the dockyard’s official UNESCO designation.

Located on Antigua’s quiet south coast, Carlisle Bay is deeply rooted in the lifestyle and culture of Antigua, and consistently creates new experiences to connect guests with the island’s heritage. The resort’s new UNESCO Boat Tour immerses guests in the rich history of Nelson’s Dockyard, which dates back to 500 BC, in signature five-star comfort.

Guests of all ages will hop aboard Carlisle Bay’s sleek 36’ Fjord luxury cruising yacht and sail back in time. Slicing through crystal clear water and bypassing sugar sand beaches, the boat will arrive at Nelson’s Dockyard for a private, expert-guided tour.

Guests will explore the dockyard’s restored Georgian-style naval buildings, original iron structures, and ancient artefacts. All the while, attendees will hear tales about the hundreds of men who maintained the Royal Navy warships, and how Antigua’s location gave the British Navy a strategic advantage at a time when European powers were competing for control of the Eastern Caribbean.

Guests will also view models of the British Naval frigates, brig-sloops, schooners and cutter ships restored in the dockyard during the 1800’s. They will also see firsthand how the harbor’s natural landscape, including its deep, narrow bays and surrounding highlands, offered shelter from hurricanes and invading forces.

After the tour, the small group will board Carlisle Bay’s luxury yacht for an on-board picnic and a snorkeling stop at Cades Reef to spot tropical fish, stingrays and elusive sea turtles while en route back to the resort.

The Carlisle Bay UNESCO Boat Tour is available on Mondays and Fridays for six to 10 guests at a time to ensure an intimate, educational and exceptional experience. Pricing is $135 per person, including refreshments, the tour of Nelson’s Dockyard, snorkeling and on-board picnic.
