Auberge du Soleil, the landmark Napa Valley inn, unveils the next phase of its design evolution in Maison Saint-Tropez, a collection of eight glamorously redesigned rooms, in May.
An encore to the recently unveiled Maison Calais La Plage, the newly enhanced rooms take their inspiration from the South of France.
Inspired by the sun-drenched South of France, the new eight-room Maison Saint-Tropez features clean architectural lines that blend French detail with relaxed California style. Slate-inspired roofs, low-profile steel French doors and expansive terraces featuring ipe wood trellises give the new maison a light, contemporary character.
Masterfully designed by Suzanne Tucker of Tucker & Marks, Inc., San Francisco, the new interiors are fashioned with natural elements such as cerused oak, leather, and limestone to depict an air of European sophistication with a bit of edgy glamour. Tucker adapted two of her textile designs, Corsica and Saint-Tropez, exclusively for Auberge du Soleil in rich tone-on-tone palettes of ivory, pale cocoa and hints of apricot.
Each bedroom features dramatic custom-designed, hand-carved wooden headboards that extend to ceiling above the California king beds, creating an artistic and striking visual anchor to the room. The bed is accented with mirrored fretwork, which is further complemented by a luxurious, organic all wool mattress. The additional warmth from the sleek, floating fireplace beckons guests to retreat to their rooms for an intimate getaway.
Suites feature outdoor soaking tubs and showers, while private terraces showcase lounge chairs, ottomans and dining tables that afford guests sweeping hillside views of the valley. Skylights drench spa-like bathrooms with natural light, highlighting oversized sculptural soaking tubs, spacious showers and heated limestone floors. Rooms are fully outfitted with high definition televisions by Samsung, as well as Blue Ray DVD players, Bose Bluetooth audio players, and high-speed wireless Internet to keep guests effortlessly and flawlessly connected.
The vision of legendary French-born restaurateur Claude Rouas, Auberge du Soleil was inspired by the sun-drenched ambiance of Provence. Perched on the slope of Rutherford Hill overlooking Napa Valley, the Auberge first opened its guest accommodations in 1985, a collection of 50 sun- and earth-toned maisons, each with French doors opening onto private terraces and sweeping views of olive groves and the vine-studded valley. Originally the vision of influential American designer Michael Taylor, all guest rooms and public spaces have since been extensively updated by Tucker, his former protégée. Auberge du Soleil’s singular style is one reason why the inn continues to receive the highest accolades from the hospitality industry, discerning guests and the media. Auberge du Soleil is a member of Relais & Châteaux, the most prestigious collection of small luxury hotels and restaurants in the world.
