Banyan Tree Yangshuo Debuts in One of China's Most Dazzling Cities
The new resort, Banyan Tree Yangshuo, is situated in the “diamond waterway”, located in Fuli Town along the lower reach of the Li River. This township is unique compared to the other beautiful ancient towns of Yangshuo, being renowned for its dazzling beauty and the origin of the world-famous painted fans of China. The new Banyan Tree resort will provide a novel concept for visitors looking to experience a village with rich local elements and traditions.

Exuding an alluring provincial charm, Banyan Tree Yangshuo is a contemporary resort set on a historical stage. An illustration of understated elegance - resort buildings and the 142 suites and villas feature local architectural and design hallmarks. Latticed windows, ink wash paintings, dark woods, bamboo, marble mosaics, earth tones and classic Chinese furnishings create an authentic sense of place. All suites and villas have remarkable views of the enchanting mountains and mesmerizing Li River.

Rolling Hills, Pristine Waters

According to a local saying: “three hills embracing the old town with the water offering a retreat”, it is in Yangshuo where the Li River runs wider than at any other place, offering a panorama like no other. There is a scenic spot along the river called the Nine-Horse Mural Hill. Visitors often describe this as heaven on earth, being able to witness the beauty of nature often forgotten in busy everyday life. The Nine-Horse Mural Hill can be accessed along a steep path. Half way up the hill, there is a rock cave with an inscription that dates back to the Ming Dynasty.

Traditionally, a travel itinerary to this area would include a boat trip along the Li River and a cultural show at West Street (Xijie). Unlike other ancient towns of Yangshuo, Fuli Town has been largely untouched by tourism.

Hometown of Traditional Painted Fans

Fuli Town boasts a rich cultural and artistic history, in fact, it is said that almost every household produces a painter. Fuli Town is named as the hometown of the traditional painted fans of China, and with less than 10,000 residents, it has produced several leading artists, such as Li Zhen'ou, a master of bird painting. His works are displayed at Tian'anmen Square and are often presented as gifts to foreign leaders.

An Outdoor Paradise

Yangshuo is one of the best places in China for rock-climbing enthusiasts, boasting some of the best rock walls in the country. According to leading international rock climbing magazines, Yangshuo is the perfect destination for any passionate climbing fan. Biking is also a good way to get around Yangshuo and many rental services are available for visitors. This mode of sightseeing in China was popularized by the former U.S. President, Jimmy Carter. When preparing for his visit to Yangshuo, his team knew that they would miss much of the sights travelling by car so they decided to use bikes to experience the stunning beauty of Yangshuo up close. In 2000, the local government built a 5km bike path with observation decks and resting places that locals often call the ‘Carter Path'.

Visitors can reach Yangshuo via Guilin Liangjiang International Airport, which is connected by major Asian carriers as well as several daily flights from Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.
