Bermuda Celebrates Heritage Month
The theme for 2014 is “Bermuda's Historical Treasures” and much of the island's rich history can be found on display in sites open to visitors such as the National Museum of Bermuda, The Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, Bermuda National Library, the Historical Society Museum, Fort St. Catherine and more. A sampling of some of this year's Heritage Month activities is below:

A “Taste of Bermuda” Culinary Festival – Friday, May 9, 2014

In collaboration with the Historical Heartbeats Committee, this festival of local foods will feature culinary demonstrations in the Town of St. George's, A UNESCO World Heritage Site. The area's top chefs will present a sampling of dishes from restaurants such as Griffin's/The St. George's Club, Tavern by the Sea and Wahoo's Bistro. The event will also feature music, films, talks and entertainment for all ages.

Location: Runs from the World Heritage Centre, Penno's Wharf through Water Street, to King's Square, St. George's
Time: 6:00 p.m. – 9: 00 p.m.

Mini Folk Festival – Sunday, May 18, 2014

Visitors and residents are invited to attend an ‘open house' on the lawn of the Bermuda Arts at the historic Royal Naval Dockyard. The event features live entertainment including musical performances, poetry readings, storytelling and craft demonstrations at the Dockyard Craft Market while enjoying delicious food supplied by the Frog and Onion Restaurant.

The Bermuda Day Parade – Monday, May 26, 2014

Bermuda Day is the highlighted celebration of Heritage Month and a public holiday on the island. Formerly Victoria Day, to honor Queen Victoria's birthday, it is a day to celebrate Bermuda's 405 years of rich history. Visitors can join local Bermudians in the capital city of Hamilton to enjoy a number of events including the Bermuda Fitted Dinghy Races, the Bermuda Day Half-Marathon Derby and the Bermuda Day Parade, which features lively bands, beautifully decorated floats and performances by the traditional Bermuda Gombey dancers.

Location: Begins from Bernard Park down Front Street to City Hall, Hamilton
