Cabo Comedy Festival Returns South of the Border

Cabo Comedy Festival Returns South of the Border
The 5-day Cabo Comedy Festival, which kicked-off on Wednesday, September 30 and went through Sunday, October 4, featured over 65 of America's top stand-ups, with another 25 of the top comics from Mexico on hand to perform shows in Spanish. The festival was produced by LA-based the Zaring Group and Wind Entertainment and sponsored by the Los Cabos Tourism Board.

Saturday night was a night of highlights, with reality star Whitney Port (The Hills and The City) and her bachelorette party in tow to partake in the laughter. Legendary stand-up comedienne Elayne Boosler was awarded with the festival's 'Giant of Comedy' Award by her long-time friend and well known talent producer Claudia Cagan, and comedian Ben Morrison was chosen as the standout performer of the Jack Rollins Breakthrough Talent Competition, in which 20 'opening act' level comedians performed on Thursday and Friday nights, with the top 5 acts from each night re-competing on Saturday before a panel of entertainment industry experts including Cagan, LEG partner Judi Brown-Marmel and writer/producer Hillary Rollins (the competition was named for iconic manager/producer Jack Rollins, who recently passed away at 100 years old). Morrison earned a spot on AXS TV's Gotham Live, quite a prize for an up and coming performer.

The Cabo Comedy Festival partnered with Levity Entertainment Group and Sirius/XM, with Levity producing a 'best of the fest' highlight show for Sirius/XM, that will air in the coming months on their comedy channels. The show features performances by Ahmed Ahmed, Ben Gleib, Drew Lynch, John Fugelsang, Francisco Ramos, Lil Rel, Derek Gaines, Tiffany Haddish and Aida Rodriguez, among others.

The shows took place at local hotspots Desperados Cantina and La Divina, with the after parties hosted at Cabo's top celebrity hangout, Baja Junkie. A portion of the proceeds of the Comedy Festival benefits DIF Los Cabos, a charitable organization which supports children and families in need.

Zaring Group founder John Zaring has three decades of experience in celebrity event production. The firm has been promoting Mexico via special events and celebrity appearances since 2007.
