Canoe Bay Named #1 Resort in the Midwest
The resort secured the top spot, once again, in the 2016 Awards that were just announced.

“We're thrilled to be recognized,” says Canoe Bay owner, Dan Dobrowolski who purchased the former youth camp in 1992 and transformed it into a romantic retreat and the Midwest's only Relais & Chateaux hotel.

The Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice Awards are one of the longest-running recognition of excellence in the travel industry and are commonly known as “the best of the best of travel.”

More than 300,000 travelers took part in the Condé Nast Traveler “2016 Readers' Choice Awards,” selecting their top choices based on experiences that were authentic, personalized and offered a bit of the unexpected.

“I grew up fishing on Lake Wahdoon,” says Dobrowolski “To be able to return and build a resort that celebrates the beauty of this region is very meaningful.”

Canoe Bay is designed around three spring-fed, glacially carved lakes. Twenty-seven guest cottages are situated throughout the beauiful hardwood forest ranging from traditional lodge rooms to the Prairie-influenced villa, Edgewood, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright protégé John Rattenbury.

All cottages feature a king bed, fireplace, private deck, two-person whirlpool tub, and some incude heated bathroom floors, carport, steam shower, and private sauna.

The Lodge features a peaceful library with lakeside deck and fitness center, the Dining Room serves fresh organic fare from the resort garden and orchard, and seasonal breakfasts are delivered to guest cottages in rustic wooden boxes handcrafted by local artisans.

Guest reaction to Canoe Bay's peaceful Prairie-stye cottages has been so strong that Dobrowolski now builds and delivers smaller, portable versions to folks across the country through his company, ESCAPE Homes.

The Readers' Choice Awards are announced in the November issue of Condé Nast Traveler, on newsstands nationwide on October 25, 2016. The full list is published exclusively online, at www.CNTraveler.com/rca.
