Celebrity Chef Ken Hom to Front New Restaurant at Copacabana Palace
Work on the 88-seat pan-Asian eatery, which has not yet been named, began last month as the world-famous hotel celebrated its 90th anniversary. Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2014, the new restaurant will be located by the swimming pool and join Copacabana Palace's other dining options, Italian restaurant Cipriani and international restaurant Pérgula.

Based both in France and Thailand, celebrated BBC TV chef Ken Hom – who has starred in a number of prime-time series and written over 30 cookery books – has created an innovative concept for the restaurant, which will serve a range of pan-Asian cuisines including Thai, Vietnamese, Singaporean, Chinese and Japanese. Highlights will include an exclusive custom tailored tea service offering exotic infusions and a dedicated sushi counter and chef.

Dark wooden floors and red walls in sub-tones of Chinese temples will be complemented by an onyx bar counter and upholstered chairs and sofas in shades of sepia and rustic silk. Dishes will be freshly prepared before guests on a long counter, while three outdoor tables by the pool will offer relaxed, alfresco dining.
Chilled-out ‘Shanghai Diva' music will transport diners to modern Asia with a wink to the past, while at 11pm a DJ will ramp-up the trendy ambience even further.
