Discover the Caribbean Coast and Explore Nature's Playground on Mexico's Riviera Maya
Kayaking into the open blue water, cycling along the coast or bird watching in the jungle, Banyan Tree Mayakoba offers a window to a surprising world of nature-filled experiences.

With direct access to a beautiful beach, the resort is cocooned by a unique, natural ecosystem combining the ocean with sand dunes and mangroves. Cradling the resort are several lagoons and canals, teeming with wild land and water residents. The resort’s daily boat tour gives an insight into the Yucatán Peninsula’s incredible array of birds, such as the Great Heron and the Yucatan Jay, plus one or two crocodiles who may be sunbathing on the canals’ banks.

One of the best ways to discover the Riviera Maya is by bike and well maintained bike paths make exploring easy and fun. Riding along the coast or into the jungle, guests may spot armadillos, iguanas, deer and Scarlet Macaws. Birdwatchers will soon be acquainted with the singing inhabitants surrounding the resort: more than 150 species live in the surrounding forests - from the tiny Yucatan Woodpecker to the brightly-colored parrots and white herons. Armed with binoculars and a camera, guests will be sure to capture some incredible wildlife.

Venturing towards the beach, turtles are a major highlight. Guests can find them in their natural habitat during a dive or at the resort’s turtle releases. To support the dwindling population of turtles, the resort’s conservation team protects the nests at the turtle camp, until they are ready to be released back into the wild. Guests are invited to join turtle release programs to wish the turtles well on their journey back to their natural environment.

A real adventure is a visit to a ‘cenote,’ named by the Mayans. These limestone holes are formed by a collapsed cave and normally filled with fresh water, offering a haven to birds, fish and crabs. With more than 1,000 cenotes along the Yucatán Peninsula, many are perfect for swimming and snorkeling, including Cenote Chaak-Tun near Banyan Tree Mayakoba.

For guests who prefer a tidy, green wilderness, the 18-hole PGA championship golf course, El Camaleon, is a personal paradise to conquer. The greens and fairways celebrate the three eco-systems found around the resort - the tropical jungle, lush mangrove forest and sandy beach facing the Caribbean Sea.
