Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows Debuts the New Mid-Century Ocean Tower
Offering sweeping views of Malibu, the Santa Monica pier and the Pacific Ocean, the new Ocean Tower has been restored to its original mid-century design and style thanks to the talented work of Los Angeles based interior designer Lynda Murray.

Murray, who has enjoyed a successful career designing for the likes of Michael Bay, Mariska Hargitay, and the new film studio for Lightstorm Entertainment where the Avatar sequels will be filmed, has always wanted to add a hotel to her portfolio, and is thankful to share her first hospitality project with a property that is very close to her heart. This hospitality project began at Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows with a series of suite renovations in the historic Palisades wing. A 1920's red brick, city landmark building, Lynda converged the high loft-like ceilings with the casual chic of Santa Monica style to create a distinct residential atmosphere.

Murray embraced the same sensibility when approaching the 10-story Ocean Tower, a one-of-a kind Santa Monica building built in the mid-1950's with 200-balcony, ocean facing guest rooms connecting directly into the landscape. She restored the interiors to the original mid‐century design, with custom built walnut grain furniture as well as custom upholstered beds all created by local craftsmen, an aspect that was very important to Murray. The design's fresh, neutral interior, including Phillip Jeffries natural wallpaper, speaks to the mid century vibe and allows guests to escape to a feeling of enjoying the beach during that era.

Each room continues to stay true to the Southern California style with items only sourced from LA, including hand selected vintage photography that depicts a vintage beach scene from the mid-century era, either from Santa Monica, the Palisades or Malibu by Santa Monica favorite, Kevin Barry Fine Art Associates. All rooms also offer unparalleled sweeping ocean views, with scenes of Malibu, the beach and the Santa Monica Pier as the new design's centerpiece with open windows and mirrors to best capture sunrises and sunsets.
