Painting the Modern Garden: Monet to Matisse is a heralded collection of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and Avant-Garde artists displayed in The Kelvin and Eleanor Smith Foundation Hall at the Cleveland Museum of Art. The exhibited paintings by Claude Monet and his contemporaries span a vibrant artistic period between the early 1860s and the 1920s – a time during which gardens captivated the imagination of many leading artists. As Monet said, “I perhaps owe it to flowers that I became a painter.” His “Grande Décorations” -- three massive six-foot-tall paintings together called the “Waterlilies,” are displayed together at the exhibition for the first time in 30 years.
