Hacienda Na Xamena, Ibiza's Original Hotel Re-Opens

Originally opened in 1971, Hacienda Na Xamena holds the secrets of a bygone Ibiza – the stories of a magical island a world away from what it is today, when locals lived a quiet life, with access to the mainland once a week. Belgian architect Daniel Lipszyc spotted an opportunity and, with pioneering vision, created a hotel in a location with no roads, water or electricity, at one with the landscape and protecting the natural habitat of the island.

The hotel was awarded its fifth star in 1988, becoming the hotel on Ibiza, distinguished by discreet luxury and relaxed atmosphere. For the past 13 years, Hacienda Na Xamena has been owned and run by Daniel's son, Alvar Lipszyc and his wife; together they have upheld the hotel's reputation on the island. This is the real Ibiza, infused with the laid back, jet-set, hippy-chic vibe that made the island so famous.

Suspended on the cliff side, Hacienda Na Xamena cascades over five floors, 180m above sea level. All of its 70 guestrooms, its restaurants and the private panoramic terrace have heart-stopping views over the turquoise waters of the bay far below. Even today, the northwest coast of Ibiza remains delightfully unspoiled. Home to leafy pine forests, and hiding exquisite calas - cove beaches – the area is wonderfully quiet and private.



Hacienda Na Xamena opens for the 2014 season with beautiful crisp, serene, contemporary interiors – with white-washed walls and polished cement floors through 77 rooms and suites. Guestrooms have floor-to-ceiling windows - and brilliantly positioned Jacuzzi baths for soaking up the fabulous views. The swimming pool has also been given a whole new look, refreshed for the new season, to ensure maximum relaxation.

Three restaurants stay true to the gastronomic roots of Ibiza and the fresh flavours of the Mediterranean with local, seasonal produce, much of it from the hotel's vegetable garden. Las Cascadas; for breakfast, and al fresco lunches with an Ibizan beach style show-cooking atmosphere, or the Eden Garden on private terraces under pine trees with a sea view – both exclusive to hotel guests. Or the Eden Restaurant, set across a series of levels with panoramic views, for delicious local dishes fresh from the sea and the mountains.

New for 2014 is a private fleet of boats, reserved exclusively for the use of guests, including an unusual glass-bottomed Quer 42 XL for up to eight passengers and a speedy Sunseeker Camargue for up to ten. From Na Xamena, guests can cruise to discover the mystique of the islet of Es Vedrà rising from the sea, or set sail for the beautiful beaches of Formentera – all with first class comfort, in perfect Ibizan style. Also new is a series of yoga experiences – for experienced yogis and new-comers alike – encouraging guests to zone out and completely escape.

Meanwhile, by day guests can relax by pool, or disappear to the La Posidonia botanic spa – named after the seaweed that grows around Ibiza – for a wide range of face and body treatments. The Cascadas Suspendidas offers outdoor thalasso-therapy with a serious view, with eight interconnected saltwater lagoons designed exclusively for the hotel. And as evening nears, sip cocktails on the terrace as the sun dips in to the Mediterranean.
