Hotel del Coronado Completes 2-Year Interiors Refurbishment

Hotel del Coronado Completes 2-Year Interiors Refurbishment
Highlights of the renovations include:

Lobby Restoration

Dallas-based Looney & Associates led the design of the hotel's lobby – restoring it to evoke the turn-of-the-century charm of the original 1888 resort. The intricate ceilings and woodwork have been painstakingly refinished, and new period style lighting – including pendants, sconces and a completely refurbished chandelier – have been installed throughout the lobby and gallery. The original millwork at the front desk has been maintained, while the concierge desks have been relocated. New concierge desks are direct replicas of the original front desk and accentuated by a decorative parasol backdrop. The former concierge area has transformed into a seating area – complete with a plush sectional sofa, new artwork and fresh lighting – illuminated with natural light flowing through a reinstalled original 1888 window. New carpeting with a classic motif derived from Victorian wallpaper – in muted hues evoking the surf and sand – as well as a free flowing art installation at the front desk add an element of whimsy. Handsome new furnishings and white marble countertops enhance the elegant, classic style that has characterized the lobby for over 125 years.

Ocean Towers and California Cabanas

The 214 guestrooms in Ocean Towers and 97 California Cabanas near the pool were given an ambitious makeover that infuses a fresh and sunny Southern California-inspired look. Traditional elegance combined with a relaxed and stylish beach-inspired motif, a citrus lime, warm gold and cerulean blue color palette and transitional-style furnishings lend an airy, laid-back feel. Warm wood and white accents enhance the comfort and hospitality of each room, while linen bedding, vibrant throw pillows, abstract art and striped woolen bed throws complete this quintessentially California look.

For family fun, colorful new Blue Dolphin family suites have been added to Ocean Towers and feature a newly renovated master king bedroom and sitting parlor along with a beach-inspired kids' bedroom, complete with sand-colored carpet, linens and playful artwork as well as bean bag chairs, crisp white bunk beds, an Xbox gaming system and a treasure chest filled with toys.

The new interiors for Ocean Towers and California Cabanas were created by Palm Beach-based Jane Dillon Design Group.

Beach Village Renewal

The luxurious oceanfront cottages and villas at Beach Village have been renovated to feature an energizing palette of soft blues, vibrant turquoise and beige – further enhancing the stunning oceanfront setting while keeping the essence of its original cottage charm. The fresh new color scheme is incorporated into all new furnishings, bedding, artwork and design accents.

Redone interiors incorporate new wood and glass lamps, beach-inspired artwork, transitional-style furnishings and guestroom accessories, as well as new Conrad shades in natural fabric embellished with sparkling glass. Shades were carefully designed to allow privacy while fully capturing the dramatic ocean views.

The upgrades at the oceanfront cottages and villas at Beach Village were completed by Dallas-based Joyce Design Group.

Victorian Room Renovation

All 368 guestrooms and suites in the original 126-year-old Victorian building were recently transformed – reflecting modern luxury while retaining classic elegance and period style. Like the lobby, the room renovations were conceived by Looney & Associates, and incorporate the historical relevance of the property with Victorian-era motifs in rich fabrics, textures and geometric forms. A soothing color palette of soft creams and grays with pops of cool lilacs, ocean blues and warm peaches, reflect the surrounding coastal setting. New furnishings have been constructed of natural materials such as woven leathers, wools, embroidery, teak and cerused walnut.

ENO Artisan Pizzeria & Wine Bar

Offering one of the first al fresco pizza ovens by the sea, ENO recently installed California's first fully outdoor regulated pizza oven. Completing the experience are expansive new sliding glass doors to fully capture the oceanfront views – with future plans for the installation of more fire pits and expanded outdoor seating.

Sheerwater & Babcock & Story Bar

Longtime guest favorites, Sheerwater and Babcock & Story Bar, both recently received upgrades which include new interior finishes, millwork and furnishings throughout, as well as new patio furniture on the ocean front terraces. Sheerwater, an all-day dining destination, now features a relaxed California coastal style reminiscent of Coronado's early 20th century atmosphere. Hues of blue and green complement the bright white millwork and weathered wood tables, and new lighting with linen shades accentuates a residential motif.

The iconic Babcock & Story Bar received new seating, wood floors, area rugs, wall coverings and window treatments – adding a contemporary twist to its Victorian roots. The renovations were completed by EDG Interior Architecture + Design, a San Rafael-based firm that has completed other projects at the Hotel del Coronado, including 1500 Ocean.
