How to Do Saint Barth's Beaches? One Picnic at a Time

Whatever the location, a picnic is the perfect diversion for hotel guests soaking up beach scenes across Saint-Barth. Perched high in the hills of Colombier, Villa Marie Saint-Barth has packed many picnics since opening its doors in December 2016, with guests reliably “delighted” by the experience.

Nestled in the French West Indies, the island of Saint-Barth is ringed with 14 beaches, each with singular character and shallow reefs offshore. Petit Cul de Sac beach, for instance, has calm and lovely waters; Gouverneur is remote and private; and the waves at Toiny are as wild as they are beautiful. Marigot unfolds as a tranquil nature preserve, great for swimming and snorkeling. Lorient draws island families, especially on Sundays. And Colombier, a.k.a. “Rockefeller's Beach,” is a popular picnic spot for locals, reachable via half-hour hike on a scenic path. And that's just to name a handful.

The simple picnic menu offers choice of Provence-style spelt wheat salad or Mixed salad and goat cheese; Traditional chicken club sandwich or Ham and butter baguette; an assortment of Fresh fruit salad, Plain or fruit yogurt, and Muffins and cookies to finish; plus water and an obligatory bottle of rosé from Domaine de Marie.
