The family-owned hotel and restaurant also boasts a seasonal terrace just a few steps from Matthias church with a warm, friendly, understated atmosphere.

Built as an inn, Pest-Buda has the distinctive honor of being the country’s first hotel, and its ground floor has served as a tavern or restaurant for several centuries. To celebrate this past, the original baroque roof structure is still in place.

Our family has been given the privilege to re-imagine Pest-Buda from top to bottom in an effort to restore its former glory. First, we renovated the entire house, and then re-opened the restaurant in 2011. Our latest venture: the 2016 arrival of a smartly designed, 10-room luxury boutique hotel.

Pest-Buda is now also one of the most stylish boutique hotels in Budapest, with 10 individually designed luxurious rooms and suites for those connoisseurs seeking a one-of-a-kind experience. While offering luxurious rooms, Pest-Buda is also an important gastronomic institution honoring grandma’s Hungarian kitchen for several decades.

  • We have teamed up with interior designer Tibor Somlai to conjure an aesthetic that reflects our concept of “casual-classical Hungarian bistro and rustic- luxury boutique hotel in a fresh way

  • Our graphic design comes courtesy of Géza Ipacs, most famous for the wine labels he dreamed up for some of Hungary’s most celebrated winemakers

  • Together with Zsolt Litauszki, creative chef of Pierrot, 21 Hungarian Kitchen, Baltazar, and ÉS Bistro (all recommended / awarded by the Michelin Guide and Gault Millau), we have worked for months to rediscover several Hungarian recipes and master the art of baking the perfect artisanal flamed pie. Chef Lajos Lutz is running a soulful kitchen devoted to Grandma’s Hungarian classics made with love and care.
