ICEHOTEL Launches New Design

ICEHOTEL Launches New Design
Guests will have the chance to sleep in a hanging installation (Hang in There); sleep next to a huge ice Fabergé egg (Last Faberge Egg); transported into a garden and enter the world of giant ice snails (Ground Rules) – or stay in a British Artist’s dreamscape she’s named Wandering Cloud.

The Arctic travel experts at Off the Map Travel are excited to share the new designs which are set to once again create a unique experience for guests this winter after which the bespoke ice rooms will once again melt into the Torne River.

This winter will mark the creation of the 28th ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi, which started out as a simple gallery for local art to be displayed, before some adventurous local visitors asked if it would be possible to sleep there – and so the ICEHOTEL was born.

With 28 artists from 11 different countries creating the new art suites, the hotel will be designed and built by artists travelling from as far afield as Argentina and Ecuador. “We can’t wait to see the new designs come to life. With artists from around the world selected from hundreds of applicants to make their designs a reality it is truly a global masterpiece that’ll be created this year,” said Jonny Cooper, Arctic travel expert and founder of Off the Map Travel. “The team at the ICEHOTEL never fail to impress and seem to outdo themselves each year – I can’t see this winter being any different.”

One of the artists earning a winning design at the ICEHOTEL this winter is Lisa Lindqvist from Dorset. Having studied Fine Art Sculpture at Wimbledon School of Art, Lisa creates pieces that all come back to the human form, saying; “I love creating the physical forms that in some way allow an intimate space between the viewer and his own thoughts, and the sculpture.”

Lisa follows up her first suite at ICEHOTEL last year with a new design named the Wandering Cloud. She adds; “As soon as I was done with my last suite, I knew I wanted to return. This year’s suite, Wandering Cloud, is an art installation that also happens to be a bedroom. As the name suggests, I will create a dreamlike vision to step in to and flow away.”

The ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi, is the world’s first hotel made entirely of ice and snow. The amount of snow used to create the hotel rooms are enough to make 700 million snowballs. The chandeliers alone are made of 1,000 hand polished ice crystals.

“It really has it all this year. Whether sleeping in Space, next to King Kong, or in the Alice in Wonderland fairytale – there is an art suite for everyone. Whether visiting for the day, or taking the ultimate experience of sleeping in an Art Suite made entirely of ice – this winter is set to showcase another 15 exciting and mind-bending designs that you’d not thought possible.”
