InterContinental Hong Kong to Undergo a Major Renovation in 2019
The hotel will undergo a spectacular transformation that will position it as one of the top hotels not only in Asia, but also as one of the world’s most iconic hotels. The total transformation will span all guest rooms and suites including bathrooms, all public areas, restaurants and event venues, as well as a redesign of the building façade with a contemporary new look.

The hotel’s celebrated restaurants and event venues are anticipated to reopen in the evenings from late summer 2019. Yan Toh Heen, InterContinental Hong Kong’s 2-Michelin star Cantonese restaurant, will remain open for dinner throughout the renovation.

Curiosity Inc., the Tokyo based studio founded by Lead Designer Gwenael Nicolas, has been appointed to create the stunning redesign and complete transformation of the hotel’s guest rooms and suites, as well as the hotel’s iconic lobby. Curiosity’s client list reads like a “who’s who” of the world’s most celebrated luxury retail brands – Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Louis Vuitton and Berluti to name a few.

Claus Pedersen, General Manager, InterContinental Hong Kong, says, “For over three decades our hotel has enjoyed a loyal following of guests not only because of our acclaimed dining, accommodations and harbor views, but also because of the outstanding service by our dedicated employees. As such, our employees will be part of our exciting renovation journey, so that we can maintain the exceptionally high service levels of our hotel and Michelin restaurants.”

Internationally acclaimed as one of the world’s top hotels for business and leisure, InterContinental Hong Kong is prized for its unrivalled views of the Victoria Harbor and Hong Kong Island. The Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Hotel is also known for its outstanding service, celebrated restaurants and facilities. It was the first InterContinental Hotel & Resort globally to achieve the exclusive 5-star ranking by the prestigious Forbes Travel Guide in 2013 – retaining this prestigious rating for five consecutive years.

Originally built as The Regent Hong Kong in 1980, the hotel re-branded to InterContinental Hong Kong in June 2001 as the Asia-Pacific flagship property for IHG (InterContinental Hotels Group).

The hotel is acclaimed as a destination for exceptional dining with the 2 Michelin star Yan Toh Heen, two celebrity chef restaurants - NOBU InterContinental Hong Kong and the recently opened Rech by Alain Ducasse (the first international outpost of Paris’s most famous seafood restaurant), plus THE STEAK HOUSE winebar + grill and Harborside.

Two-thirds of the 503 guest rooms, including all 87 suites, have harborviews. The spectacular 7,000 sq. foot Presidential Suite, the largest in the city, features a 2,500 square foot rooftop terrace with an infinity swimming pool overlooking the harbor. Leisure facilities include the feng shui inspired I-Spa and Pool Terrace, with unique infinity spa pools overlooking the harbor, and a 24-hour Fitness Centre. Eleven harborview function rooms and the InterContinental Ballroom offer 22,626 sq. ft. of meeting space.
