Jade Mountain, St Lucia, Joins Eco-Luxury Community Regenerative Travel

An iconic resort experience known for its unique landscape-driven design and unparalleled, unobstructed views of the majestic twin Pitons and Caribbean Sea, Jade Mountain announces its Member Hotel Status with Regenerative Travel, a community of independent, luxury hotels that aim to shift the travel industry towards a more regenerative future.

Pushing the boundaries of art, design, food, adventure, and the outdoors while serving as hubs of creativity and innovation and role models in the regenerative tourism space, each member of Regenerative Travel is carefully evaluated for their values and ethical operations and must pledge a commitment to continual improvement and evolution. Members report monthly on 28 indicators linked to Regenerative Travel's standards. Examples include ‘Honors Sense of Place’ and ‘Respects Local and Global Ecosystems,’ with a system that holds hotels accountable and provides hoteliers with an educational curriculum and a platform to share best practices to drive aspirations towards regenerative models. At the consumer level, Regenerative Travel connects travelers with destinations and properties that align with their core ethical values and offer immersive, culture-rich experiences that are authentic, forward-thinking, and relevant to today’s shifting travel landscape.

Jade Mountain Architect Nick Troubetzkoy and Co-Founder Karolin Troubetzkoy have designed a resort experience that harmoniously immerses travelers in nature, connects them with the local community and thoughtfully considers their impact on the environment. Jade Mountain is the Caribbean’s first LEED-certified hotel, recognized for its pioneering design that eliminates the need for artificial lighting and cooling, its sustainable water supply, which is independent from the town of Soufriere and sources water from a river in the Anse Mamin valley before filtering and conditioning at a fresh-water treatment facility, ensuring as little impact as possible to the surrounding community. Jade Mountain’s efforts to protect the region’s vital water systems also include restoring the historic 1.5-million-gallon reservoir in the Anse Mamin Valley and the development of a rain and river-fed catchment system that uses greywater recycling for plant irrigation and resort landscaping.

Since opening in 2006, Jade Mountain remains one of the most important employers in the region; the resort was constructed by a team of 100% St. Lucian nationals and the property currently employs a 99% local workforce. In additional to supporting local artisans, farmers, environmental experts, and hospitality professionals through its on and off-site programs, Jade Mountain has been a driving force in promoting regenerative tourism models in the Caribbean with efforts championed by Karolin Troubetzkoy, who has dedicated her time and resources to the prosperity of Soufriere and its surrounding communities and supports numerous associations and organizations with this same mission.

“Having operated sustainably for decades we felt the time had come to take our efforts further, “explains Karolin Troubetzkoy. “As travelers grow increasingly aware of how their choices impact small communities and the environment on a greater global scale, we’re proud to join a group of innovative properties and hoteliers who are working towards a common goal of encouraging travel that’s more purposeful and meaningful, in support of properties and organizations that are helping their local communities thrive.”
