Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort, Fiji Unveils Deluxe Two-Bedroom Bures
The multi-stage process commenced in 2012 and has encompassed several million dollars of improvements, including enhanced facilities, accommodations and public spaces, and recently the introduction of new Deluxe Oceanfront two-bedroom Bures (guest rooms).

“Our dedication to Fijian culture, sustainable practices and the local community remain our guiding principles,” said Mark Slimmer, general manager of Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort, Fiji, “and we have taken great care to preserve the resort’s unique character and authenticity. We are delighted with these wonderful enhancements to the resort, and the reaction from our guests has been overwhelmingly and enthusiastically positive.”

Due to high demand, and to better accommodate families and groups, the resort built three new Deluxe Oceanfront two-bedroom Bures, each offering spacious bedrooms, ranging from 37 to 44 square meters, with private bathrooms and stunning views of Savusavu Bay. The new bures provide more flexibility and privacy for two couples or families to share accommodation, with private entrances and separate en-suite facilities. These bures are built from sustainable timber with thatched roofs and décor consistent with the resort’s existing bures in traditional Fijian style. An outdoor deck provides seating, chaise lounges, and a double hammock enabling guests to enjoy the ocean views.

Other enhancements include an impressive porte cochère at the main entrance, an extension of the family dining area, and a completely new pier with stunning underwater lighting for viewing tropical fish at night. New soft furnishings were added around the pool and beach areas, along with an additional beachfront relaxation bure with daybeds. While carefully preserving the authentic décor and architecture, the resort installed stylish local furniture, soft furnishings, and decorative enhancements throughout the bures and the central areas of the resort.

In keeping with an ongoing effort to reduce the resort’s carbon footprint, all the lighting throughout the bures and central areas was converted to energy-efficient LED fittings. The resort also took this opportunity to carry out upgrades to the infrastructure, including the systems that allow for ongoing sustainability practices.
