Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort Wins World Travel Award

Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort Wins World Travel Award
In this 16th annual tabulation of the World Travel Awards, 183,000 travel agencies and professionals from more than 160 countries worldwide voted for the best in all sectors of the global travel industry.

This year's honor brings the resort's World Travel Awards to six. In 2008 it was designated "Fiji's Leading Resort" and recognized as the first-ever "Australasia's Leading Green Hotel." In 2007 it won "Fiji's Leading Boutique Resort" and "Fiji's Leading Suite" for the resort's Villa. In 2005 it also was recognized as "Fiji's Leading Resort."

"We are honored by the continued recognition from our colleagues in the travel industry for the guest experience we provide," said General Manager Greg Taylor. "This is the third World Travel Award for 'Fiji's Leading Resort' we have received in four years, indicating our staff’s enduring reputation for excellence."

The intimate, internationally acclaimed Jean-Michel Cousteau Fiji Islands Resort overlooks the pristine waters of Savusavu Bay on the island of Vanua Levu. Surrounded by spectacular secluded coastline, pristine barrier reefs and exotic marine life, this socially and environmentally responsible resort offers an authentic Fijian experience for travelers of all ages, combining culture, wellbeing, local environment, relaxation and exceptional cuisine. It is a favorite for romance, destination weddings & honeymoons, scuba diving and families.

Designed in an environmentally friendly style, the individual one- and two-bedroom bures – Fijian thatched-roof bungalows – exude tropical elegance. As an intimate resort, there are only 25 bures scattered among the palm trees of this former 17-acre coconut plantation.

The resort has one of the most expansive arrays of complimentary resort activities that educate, entertain and encourage well-being. Activities include the use of three swimming pools, kayaking, catamaran sailing, daily yoga, tennis, glass-bottom boat tours, reef flat walks, organic garden tours and a traditional Kava ceremony. The resort’s cultural host leads a number of adventures such as the traditional Fijian medicine walk, rainforest and waterfall hikes, mangrove tours, and visits to a local Fijian village. On Sundays, local children put on a Fijian cultural show.

As one of the world's top dive operations, established by Jean-Michel Cousteau and dedicated to preserving the delicate reefs and their inhabitants, the resort offers world-class diving, snorkeling, informative tide pool walks and a giant clam restoration project.

Guests can indulge in a spa treatment offered in the beachfront spa bure, dine under the stars on the pier or book a private island escape.

The culinary experience at the resort is also award-winning. Serving the "Best Food in Fiji" (Travel + Leisure), two executive chefs prepare menus that incorporate a blend of contemporary Fijian, South Pacific and international cuisine that is complemented by an extensive selection of fine wines.

Rates include all meals, nonalcoholic bottled beverages, complimentary activities, daily kids' club and return transfers from the Savusavu Airport.
