King Pacific Lodge Launches Voluntourism Program
This floating wilderness lodge on BC's central coast has created the Patrons of the Rainforest program: in exchange for volunteering their time, guests will support conservation initiatives to preserve the Great Bear Rainforest. Developed by the charity Guarding the Gifts in partnership with the Gitga'at First Nation, the Patrons of the Rainforest project invites guests of King Pacific Lodge to make a meaningful contribution to a truly remarkable part of the world.

Adults and youngsters alike can sign up to ‘be a scientist for a day' - or longer - and accompany a Gitga'at researcher into the field. Get your feet wet identifying and recording marine species in the intertidal zone; grab your binoculars and brush up on your bird spotting to help conduct a raptor survey; assist with measuring river flow and fish count, or help chart culturally modified trees as you immerse yourself in silviculture with your First Nations researcher.

Guests who sign up to be a Patron of the Rainforest receive several benefits in recognition of their efforts including an autographed copy of The Great Bear Rainforest by author and conservation photographer Ian McAllister; as well as a private tour of the ‘behind the scenes' areas of the Lodge, highlighting the initiatives that resulted in the award for North America's Leading Green Hotel. Finally, King Pacific Lodge will donate $400 per family to Guarding the Gifts.

King Pacific Lodge operates from June 3 to September 23, 2011. To learn more about becoming a patron of the rainforest at King Pacific Lodge this summer, visit www.kingpacificlodge.com or call (604) 987-5452; toll-free (888) 592-5464.
