Las Alcobas, Mexico City's Newest Small Luxury Hotel Opens
The intimate 35-room, seven-story property was custom-crafted by acclaimed interior design duo Yabu Pushelberg (whose client base includes Prada, Louis Vuitton, Four Seasons, W Hotels and Thompson Hotels) to reflect the property's namesake – "the alcoves" in Spanish – and aptly expresses a modern sensibility, infused with warmth and texture. Business and leisure travelers seeking solace from the bustling city will delight in Las Alcobas' extreme attention to privacy and seclusion, its design-savvy furnishings and residential layout and its personalized amenities. Also included in the hotel is NEMI, an 80-seat gourmet restaurant by Chef Michael Mina, and the Aurora Spa, offering treatments reflective of Mexico's ancient healing traditions.

All 35 fashionable guestrooms, including the two-bedroom suite and three penthouse suites featuring wraparound terraces, have been constructed from the finest materials: white goose-down bedding; hand-knotted rugs that add to the sense of locale, as does original artwork by contemporary Mexican artists; and all-marble, spa bathrooms with soothing rain showers and whirlpool tubs. State-of-the-art technology is available in every room – LCD flat screen televisions, surround-sound CD and DVD home theatre systems by BOSE, wireless high-speed Internet, and multi-line telephones with voicemail and data line capabilities – as are centralized controls to facilitate guests’ interaction with lights, audio systems and hotel services.

“The Las Alcobas’ concept – intimate spaces that magnify the comforts of home – is new for Mexico City,” says Samuel Leizorek, managing partner of Las Alcobas. “We have taken the luxury, comfort, and design associated with traditional lodging establishments and added personalized services and hand-picked design elements, resulting in an intimate approach to hospitality – luxury without the pretense.”

In addition, Las Alcobas will introduce Aurora Spa. Playing off of Mexico’s vibrancy and spirit in its diversity, Aurora Spa will offer guests an experience alive with rich history, culture and luxurious personal attention. Signature treatments have been created with medical contributions that pay homage to Mexico’s traditions.

Complementing the luxurious in-room guest experience, the 80-seat fine-dining restaurant NEMI (which means “to live” in Nauatl, Mexico City’s pre-Hispanic language) will feature a high-end specialty kitchen of fish and seafood in addition to a full room-service menu. NEMI’s creator, Chef Michael Mina, was named Bon Appétit Chef of the Year 2005 and San Francisco Magazine Chef of the Year 2005, building his reputation with stateside restaurants such as Michael Mina, San Francisco and Las Vegas and Bourbon Steak in Miami.

Room rates at Las Alcobas begin at $415 US for a standard room and range to $2,500 US for the penthouse suites. For reservation information, please call +52 (55) 3300 3900 or visit www.lasalcobas.com.
