Limalimo Lodge Ethiopia New Luxury Eco-Travel Destination

Limalimo Lodge Ethiopia New Luxury Eco-Travel Destination
Perched on top of a dramatic escarpment in northern Ethiopia's Simien Mountains National Park and boasting spectacular views over miles of rugged lowland, Limalimo Lodge makes the perfect base to explore and experience this wonderfully unique place.

This beautifully designed 14-room lodge sets out to lead by example in demonstrating how responsible, sustainable tourism can support conservation. Working in partnership with the African Wildlife Foundation, the lodge has sought the emotional buy-in of the surrounding community from the very start of the project to ensure their involvement and that they benefit from contributing to the future health of the National Park. The bulk of the building has been carried out by construction workers from the Limalimo community and the majority of the staff at the lodge comes from here too. Food will be purchased locally and a conservation fee from every guest's overnight stay will be directly invested into conservation of the park in collaboration with African Wildlife Foundation to protect its integrity.

Limalimo Lodge

Small but perfectly formed, the lodge is contemporary and designed to complement its natural surroundings by using rammed earth, wood and thatch. The en-suite rooms themselves will be dotted throughout 10 hectares of lush landscape so guests can enjoy the peace and privacy of their surroundings. To make sure the lodge operates with as little environmental impact as possible investment has been made in bio-waste technology whilst hot water, heating and electricity are generated by renewable energy sources and recycled water will irrigate the gardens.

The Simien Mountains have been dubbed Africa's answer to the Grand Canyon. A UNESCO world heritage site, the National Park combines peaks (its home to Ethiopia's tallest Ras Dejen at 4543m), high plateaus and deep gullies that drop off hundreds of metres. Limalimo Lodge offers an array of activities for you to enjoy their splendor including trekking, luxury picnic excursions and camping out under the stars.

There's also some incredible wildlife here: the world's largest population of endemic Gelada Monkey roam the area and the birdlife is abundant. The neighbouring community who lie at the heart of Limalimo Lodge welcome the opportunity for guests to experience aspects of rural Ethiopian village life - guided market visits, traditional cookery, farming, beekeeping and beer making to name a few.

If you are wanting to relax, the lodge offers traditional foot massage and early morning outdoor yoga sessions as well as plenty of space to soak up the majesty of mountains; be that from your own private terrace, a hammock under an acacia, the restaurant, the bar or cosied up in the evening around the fire pit.

However you choose to experience the Simien Mountains you can be assured you will leave Limalimo Lodge with lasting memories celebrating the magic and beauty of this ancient country.
