Madonna Weddings At Badrutt's Palace Hotel, St. Moritz
Under new laws, civil weddings can now take place in this private room filled with historical significance. Grooms-to-be can also add a unique stag party by booking the Badrutt’s Palace – Licence to Wed package, where the bachelor tests his domestic and culinary skills prior to the wedding. In the meantime, Palace Wellness offers an opportunity for brides-to-be and their companions to be pampered and become ‘red carpet’ ready with the Palace Beauty package.

Couples can hold their civil ceremony in the handsome 700 sq. ft. (65 sq m,) oak-panelled Madonna Saal. Raphael’s vast Sistine Madonna painting dominates the traditional hall that was once the hotel’s library. Today the room radiates an atmosphere that is both inspiring and joyful. The Madonna Saal accommodates 40 people, theatre style, and the décor can be designed to match the couple’s plans, from sumptuous to sophisticated, complemented by the in-house florist’s floral decorations, a wedding cake from the Palace pâtisserie and canapés by executive chef Mauro Taufer.

In 1886 Johannes Badrutt, a knowledgeable art collector, purchased the altar painting of the Madonna that today hangs in Badrutt’s Palace Hotel’s Madonna Saal. There are only two paintings in the world of the Madonna holding the Christ child, flanked by Pope Sixtus and Saint Barbara. The first was painted by Raphael in 1512 for the San Sisto Monastery in Piacenza, Italy and today hangs in the Staatliche Kunstsammlung in Dresden, in the Old Masters gallery. The second painting, named The Assumption, hangs in Badrutt’s Palace Hotel.
