Monastero Santa Rosa Hotel & Spa Opens on Italy's Amalfi Coast
The hotel seems to float over the coastline from a rock base on the edge of a cliff which plunges into the depths of the Bay of Salerno. Originally a 17th century monastery, the building was restored to honor its roots. Both the exterior and the interior maintain the asceticism of the property, offset by warm and inviting contemporary design within.

The Amalfi Coast boasts the most beautiful vistas in the world, and Monastero Santa Rosa takes full advantage of them with 20 sea view guest rooms and suites, a full-service spa, a heated infinity pool, beautiful gardens, and a special herb garden, all situated over five terraced levels. Each room is named after one of the historical herbs still grown at the property site.

The pièce de résistance of the hotel is its extraordinary Spa. The Spa designer kept intact the original 17th century vaulted ceilings and many of its rustic walls in order to maintain the intriguing character of the original rooms. The unique experience here may only be described as a journey, an event distinguished by the monastery’s authenticity combined with the amenities of a modern spa.

Once a guest registers, she/he is escorted to the changing room and afterwards to the Spa’s Thermal Suite which interconnects a series of historic monastic spaces. This includes a stunning double height vaulted Tepidarium (warm relaxing room) with heated benches and whirlpool footbaths, domed herbal Steam Room, Crushed Ice Fountain to refresh between thermal baths, wood Sauna, Hydrotherapy Pool and Experience Shower.

There is also a “spa within a spa,” an area perfect for girlfriend getaways, bridal parties, couples or other small groups. It comprises a Rasul, Steam Room with mosaic tiles that form individual seating, two wet treatment tables, two dry treatment beds, relaxation area accommodating manicures, pedicures and footbaths, and a private dressing and grooming space. The area also offers a private garden terrace with loungers, a table for light lunches and views of the coastline and the sea.

The treatments are enhanced by exclusive Santa Maria Novella oils, creams and lotions which draw upon the ancestral tradition of Italian herbalists, using plants and flowers known for their healing powers as historically grown in the monasteries.

Monastero Santa Rosa is built into the side of a mountain with the floors connected by a glass-fronted elevator affording panoramic views. All of the rooms and suites offer spectacular sea views, flat screen TV, complimentary high-speed internet access, in-room safe, spacious bathroom, mini bar and room service.

Monastero Santa Rosa’s Ristorante features the original vaulted ceiling. Guests from outside of the hotel are also welcome to enjoy regional specialties, delicious seafood and fresh produce from the hotel’s own garden and wines from its extensive wine cellar. The terraced area outside the bar, where light food with a local flair is served, features an outdoor fireplace and panoramic perspectives around the sparkling Bay below. This is the ideal setting for savoring an aperitif at sunset or relaxing under the stars after dinner with a limoncello or other nightcap. Light meals are served by the heated Infinity Pool, where guests may go to swim or relax while enjoying the breathtaking views.

Attached to the hotel by a lovely garden is a 12th century chapel. The chapel or one of the garden settings on the cliff is an ideal venue for weddings. The entire property is available for exclusive hire for weddings or other celebrations and three other churches nearby also accommodate weddings.
