New Spa Offerings at Mexico's Grand Velas Resorts

New Spa Offerings at Mexico's Grand Velas Resorts
Grand Velas Riviera Maya invites guests to try an innovative Velas Fish Therapy treatment, while Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit looks to relax spa patrons with its authentic water and fire healing experiences.

Grand Velas Riviera Maya, a recipient of Virtuoso's “Best Spa” award, offers a truly remarkable foot exfoliation and healing experience with its Velas Fish Therapy treatment ($105). This 50-minute indulgence employs one of nature's smallest exfoliation techniques: doctor fish. During the first 25 minutes of the massage, guests submerge their feet in small pools containing the toothless doctor fish, whose saliva produces the natural, healing enzyme dithranol. These fish go to work healing the dead skin cells of the feet, improving circulation and beautifying the skin's appearance. Afterwards, a masseuse will step in to complete the healing treatment with a 25 minute, manual foot massage.

Spa guests of Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, a member of Leading Spas of the World, can pamper themselves with treatments recalling the power of water and fire. The Four Hands Grand Velas Rain Massage ($179) treats guests to an exclusive four hand massage from head to toe, along with gentle rains from seven simultaneous showers . This experience combines personalized pampering with luxurious fragrance. Alternately, the Four Hand Samunprai Massage ($280) draws on the soothing nature of heat. Based on traditional Thai therapy, this massage is considered helpful for those experiencing tension or muscular pain. The treatment makes use of four hands and a series of hot compressions containing exotic herbs. With the combined 80-minute massage and aromatherapy, this treatment relaxes and detoxifies patrons with its medicinal heat.

The $15 million architecturally striking spa at the AAA Five Diamond Grand Velas Riviera Maya is inspired by the jungle and natural water pools of the Yucatan Peninsula. Mexican Architects Ricardo Elias and Alexis Elias of EliasElias AR preserved the stone, plants and streams specific to the Riviera Maya landscape and incorporated them into the curved, organic design of the two-level, 89,000 square-foot spa. Spa Grand Velas Riviera Maya features 40 treatment rooms and suites complemented with Mexican and Balinese artwork and furnishings. Each treatment (of 50 minutes or more) includes the hour-long Water Journey, a relaxation ritual built around eight specially designed water-based facilities with a personal spa valet to provide guidance.

Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit, an all-suites and spa resort located just 15 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta on Banderas Bay, is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and a recipient of the AAA Five-Diamond Award. The crown jewel of the resort and a member of Leading Spas of the World, the Spa at Grand Velas features 20 treatment rooms, over 80 spa treatments, gym and exercise room, spa boutique and beauty salon. The spa's design includes a palapa style entrance, furniture from Bali and an impressive marble wall with a cascading waterfall.
