Exclusive New Wine Club '67 Pall Mall' to Launch in London
Born from a passion for fine wine, and a frustration at the unnecessary mark up prices bestowed on them by restaurants and bars, 67 Pall Mall’s mission is to make accessible fine wine to its members both physically and financially. The antithesis of a wine cellar where bottles are forever locked away to gather dust, 67’s aim is to entice members to pull the cork and discover a new wine.

Founder, and CEO Grant Ashton describes the light bulb moment from which 67 Pall Mall was born –

“Essentially, I got fed up of being mugged by punitive London mark-ups on fine wine. Like a lot of people, I’d stopped drinking seriously good wine in restaurant. It wasn’t that I couldn’t afford to, but simply because I was no longer prepared to pay the egregious, nonsensical prices that were being asked. What stuck in my throat was that I knew exactly what these wines had cost to buy. In the end, I just ended up drinking wine at home and at friends’ dinner parties.” - Founder, and CEO, Grant Ashton

Members of 67 Pall Mall will have access to an unrivalled wine list served by the glass thanks to leading edge Coravin technology, at a sensible price all expertly curated by 67 Pall Mall’s Master Sommelier, Ronan Sayburn. Previously Executive Head Sommelier for Gordon Ramsay Holdings, Head of Wine for the Dorchester Collection, Ronan and his team of wine professionals will be on hand to engage with and inspire members as they make their selection whatever their level of knowledge, as well as hold impromptu and informal tastings.

“The concept of the perfect wine list means different things to different people – a small edited list can be just as good as an exhaustive tome. Our list will be multifaceted, both curated and comprehensive. We will have a section of Sommelier’s Recommendations; an ever evolving list of the team’s favorite wines. These will include wines at their peak, wines that represent great value for money, wines that are unique, unusual in their production, the location they come from or just fun interesting wines. This section will give our guests immediate access to an edited selection of wines from 5,000 bins. In addition, we will have an extensive choice of around 500 wines available by the glass including Château Latour 1961, Harlan Estate 1997 and Sassicaia 1985 on offer to try as a small sample or full glass thanks to the Coravin technology. Our list will be accessible via an iPad which will allow easy filtering of styles, prices, countries or grape varieties and provide critics’ and members’ scores. Furthermore our selection comes from all over the world, not just the old world classics such as France and Italy but comprehensive vintage verticals from California, South America and Australia, interesting gems from Greece, Hungary, Portugal and even Japan.” - Master Sommelier, Ronan Sayburn

Set across three floors, the interior has been sensitively transformed by Simone McEwan, into a luxuriously, and welcoming space designed with the modern oenophile in mind. In The Lounge members can enjoy unique views of St James’s Palace through the grand ceiling to floor windows of the original Banking Hall, whilst perusing the informative wine list available on ipads, loaded with critic’s scores, winemakers’ notes, and tasting notes.

The Wine Library, a space for discovery and learning will hold thousands of bottles on display in a temperature and humidity controlled environment, designed to allow members to browse or be guided towards their next discovery.

The mezzanine is designed as a quieter and more intimate area, as place of calm from which to enjoy a glass of wine in peace with the paper or the latest wine periodical.

One of the club’s more unusual features will be the Chatwood “Invicible” Strongroom, an original Hambros Bank safe refurbished to house the finest and rarest wines from the collection in what will be the most secure fine wine storage in central London. Members will have the opportunity to store an allocation of their personal collection within the cellars for consumption to share and enjoy within the club.

In addition to oenological delights, 67 Pall Mall’s restaurant will serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and sharing plates daily under the expert leadership of Head Chef Marcus Verberne. The thoughtfully chosen menus designed by Verberne who counts legendary kitchens including Hix, Le Caprice, J Sheekey, The Ivy restaurants, The Brown’s Hotel, and Roast amongst his previous experience will incorporate the freshest, seasonal ingredients designed to complement and enhance the wine list, and experience for members and their guests.

“The club was designed with the wine lover at the fore, food has always been an equal partner. After all, great food is essential to enhancing the experience of drinking fine wine. Ronan and I will be working closely together to create dishes that are harmonious with the wine selection. The menu will be in a constant state of evolution designed around the freshest carefully sourced produce our valued suppliers have to offer. One of the jewels in the kitchen’s crown will be the ‘Josper’ grill. One of my main focuses will be on the quality of the beef, rotating different cuts and encouraging the members to share larger joints.” - Head Chef, Marcus Verberne

Along with access to the best food and wines, members will also have access to exclusive events, talks, tastings and dinners with the world’s best chateau owners, winemakers, and industry experts. Members will also have access to Wine & Spirit Education Trust courses from beginner level to expert. Members can also share their collections with other members with 67 Pall Mall’s in-house merchant, allowing members to buy and sell wine.

67 Pall Mall will in addition offer two spaces perfect for private hire, The Lutyens Room and the The St James’s Room. The St James’s Room is situated downstairs at 67 Pall Mall and will offer seating for 80 for formal dinners with wine flights or 100 for standing parties. Whilst the smaller Lutyens Room provides private dining for up to 12 people or can be used as a meeting room.
