For travelers with pets, finding animal-friendly hotels is a familiar dilemma. But the Soho Grand bucks the trend, and welcomes guests to check their furry friends in with them. Yet the hotel has now gone a step further, and this May 1st they will launch a quirky outdoor area… designed for dogs.
When in 1926 Max Stern arrived in the USA with nothing but a birdcage of canaries, he was carrying the beginnings of what would become the USA’s largest pet supplier. This beginning has shaped the ethos of this family business and is essential to the spirit of the Soho and Tribeca Grand Hotels.
While continuing to create a home away from home for those guests traveling with dogs, the Dog Park will contribute to the Soho sense of community that is so integral to the neighborhood. In addition to enriching the area, the park will give guests with dogs the kind of unique and personal experience that they seek when traveling. Like the guests and New Yorkers that frequent the hotel, the hotel’s four-legged regulars have themselves become accustomed to a distinguished lifestyle that the Dog Park will accommodate.
This deluxe lifestyle will be reflected in the beautiful design of the space, which will have an old Soho charm to it, incorporating the wall of St. Alphonsus Liguori Church into the landscape, which stood long before the Soho Grand. Cherry trees, boxwoods and ornamental kale will provide foliage for a verdant and natural environment, while overhead string lights, bespoke benches and fire hydrants will be a witty reminder to visitors that they are in one of the chicest establishments of the world’s most cosmopolitan city.
Over time, the hotel is looking forward to nurturing the space and creating a vibrant, canine social hotspot that will be cherished by guests and New Yorkers alike.
