Quito is Named South America's Leading Destination
The Ecuadorian capital was also the host of the Gala Ceremony of this renowned competition, which gathered a full and international audience of leading tourism industry and media representatives.

This prestigious ceremony is considered the Oscars of the tourism industry in Central and South America. The Gala, moderated by Renato Ortega, the famous writer, photographer and TV presenter, was held at Itchimbía Cultural Centre and showed to all present the great variety on offer from Ecuador.

At the same time, Ecuador won the “South America´s Green Destination” award and the Ecuadorian Tourist Board was named the “Best Tourist Organization”. Meanwhile, the Cruise Train, one of the most recent attractions in the country, won the “South America´s Best Luxury Train” award. Last but not least, Finch Bay Hotel was named the “Best Green Hotel” and the new airport of Quito, Mariscal Sucre International won the “South America´s Best Airport”.

Luz Elena Coloma, Quito Turismo´s Manager Director, stated: “We´re really proud to host tourist experts from all over the world, who work hard to promote their destinations, and it has been a pleasure for our team to make this Gala Ceremony possible together with the World Travel Awards team”. In addition, she says: “From Quito Turismo we´ve done our best to make an unforgettable moment out of this Ceremony and to highlight all the attractions our city has to offer. This event has been an excellent platform to promote Quito as well as Ecuador around the world”.

Graham Cooke, President of World Travel Awards, wanted to emphasise Quito´s role as a host:: “ It has been an honour for us holding the Central and South America annual edition in Quito. From the first moment, the members of Quito Turismo team made us feel at home in their city. I was impressed by the great professionalism and commitment of every single person working in this event.”
