Chasing Mavericks stars Gerard Butler, Elisabeth Shue and Jonny Weston and is an inspiring, true story of courage and friendship. When 15-year-old Jay Moriarty (Weston) discovers that the mythical Mavericks surf break is real, he reaches out to local surfing legend Frosty Hesson (Butler) to train him to ride it. What begins as a mentorship turns into an extraordinary bond that transforms both their lives, as Jay and Frosty learn valuable lessons about conquering fear in pursuit of your dreams. Featuring the most spectacular wave footage ever captured on film, Chasing Mavericks is packed with action and excitement.

The screening is a preview of the upcoming Mavericks season in Half Moon Bay. The season kicks off in November following the strong winter storms in the northern Pacific. Waves can typically crest at more than 25 feet, but can top out at more than 80 feet. The world's best big wave surfers are attracted by these massive waves and come to the area to compete in this big wave competition.
