Colorado Ski Country's Undiscovered Retreats

Colorado Ski Country's Undiscovered Retreats
In the Vail Valley, home to both Vail and Beaver Creek resorts, that gem is Cordillera. Located just eight miles from Beaver Creek and 15 miles from Vail, Cordillera is an enclave that is home to the Lodge & Spa at Cordillera, five different neighborhoods, miles of snowshoeing and cross country skiing trails and an equestrian center, just to name a few amenities. It's perched on the Continental Divide, providing spectacular views that you can't get at other resorts. It's an undiscovered retreat that combines the best of a ski resort vacation with a truly luxurious escape.

Aspen: Aspen Meadows Resort. Located in the historic West End of Aspen, Aspen Meadows is known as the home of the Aspen Institute and the annual Aspen Ideas Festival–it's booked to the gills for most of the summer. However, it's also a gem in the winter. 40 acres of property means plenty of room to explore and play and the Bauhaus architecture, on-grounds art gallery and outdoor installations make it a unique gem in this swanky resort town.

Breckenridge: Lodge by the Blue. Nestled at the base of Mount Quandary, Lodge by the Blue is just six miles from the mountain town of Breckenridge, the ski resort and all it has to offer. Guests to this rustic retreat not only have access to the incredible skiing, but also get to experience the wide open spaces (and wide variety of recreation) that come from staying just a little bit from town.

Copper Mountain Resort: McGinnis Cottage Inn B&B. Located about 30 minutes from Copper Mountain resort, the town of Leadville is known for it's elevation–it's the highest town in Colorado. Add to that the old west vibe that you get from this historic town and Leadville is a destination unto itself. Eschew the cookie cutter condo options at Copper Mountain's base area and explore this picturesque location while you relax after runs. It's worth the drive.

Winter Park: Devil's Thumb Ranch. It might be a stretch to call Devil's Thumb Ranch undiscovered–after all, it's known as and eco-friendly ranch and retreat that offers plenty of winter fun like snowshoeing and cross country skiing. However, most people don't choose it as a a base for their downhill dreams–and they should. Located on the doorstep of Winter Park, Devil's Thumb Ranch is the perfect place to sit back and relax after tackling the majesty that is Mary Jane (and Winter Park, of course).
