Sofitel Opens in Montevideo
At the inauguration party, 1000 guests enjoyed the performance of the National Ballet and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Montevideo, and the Vice President of Uruguay Mr. Danilo Astori gave the opening remarks. He highlighted the evident trust of the foreign investors in the country as Sofitel Hotel Group and added. "Tonight it is night of joy and celebration for various reasons. I would like to mention only one, which I consider the most important: the recuperation of this architectonic jewel of our cultural heritage, abandoned for many long years."

Sofitel has chosen an iconic building, located in the most exclusive area of Montevideo surrounded by magnificent houses and vast gardens, with a lobby that opens out onto the beach. This culturally treasured palace meticulously reconstructed and declared National Heritage site, constitutes an impressive fusion between the French ‘art de vivre' and the local culture. With 93 rooms and 23 suites furnished to offer guests a high level of comfort and privacy, the Sofitel is now the ideal choice for guests on business trips or vacation in Montevideo. It is also home to the So Spa, a large casino, restaurant, bar, library, café and a large pool.

In the last few years, Uruguay has become one of the hottest destination in Latin America chosen by high-end international travellers. In the next months, two airlines are launching flights to Montevideo, a city that is growing as a cultural centre in the region. Air France will open a new route Paris-Montevideo on 16th April; and Air Europa, the Latin American specialist, will open a direct flight from Madrid on 3rd June (3 per week), to fill the void Iberia left after cancelling its route. The UK is a priority market for Uruguay and the above are great reasons for local operators to choose Uruguay as one of the upcoming beautiful destinations for UK travelers.
