Spa Qualia Joins Ranks of International 'Must Experience' Spas
The Spa, located at the pinnacle of the property on the northernmost tip of Hamilton Island is perfectly situated to catch the soft breezes and the tranquil views of the Whitsunday Islands.

Like the rest of the Resort, designed by well known Queensland architect, Chris Beckingham, Spa Qualia has a distinctive Australian look and feel using natural timbers and stone work.

Guests will arrive to an elegant Port Cochere and immediately begin to unwind as they pass down a walkway lined with reflecting pools.

Spa Qualia has six deluxe treatment rooms – two dual treatment rooms with their own bathroom, changeroom, sunken Roman bath, outdoor shower and relaxation area. There are four single rooms, two of which also have an outdoor shower.

Guests can also use the extensive facilities located in the changerooms including the steam room, Swiss shower and relaxation areas.

Spa Qualia has been designed at all levels to reflect the meaning of the Resort's name, Qualia – "a deeper sensory experience."

"The products we have chosen and the treatments we have designed speak to this sensory experience of the mind and body," says Helena Keenan, newly appointed and highly experienced Spa Manager. "At Spa Qualia we are creating a vision that will focus on providing the guest with a beautiful and pampering experience that also leaves them with the feeling that their health and wellbeing has been enhanced."

This philosophy led to the selection of two signature treatments for the spa, both from Australia. The first is a hot stone massage treatment called Bularri Yarrul – "warm stone" in the Kamilaroi indigenous language. This specialised treatment uses 300 million year old stones harvested from the northern NSW area. Their vibrational energy "jiva" has a deep relaxing effect on the muscles and the synergy of the stones combined with massage is effective in relieving tension and grounding emotionally.

The second treatment utilises a boutique range of ten Australian handmade blended essential oils called Anoint. The blends are used to act on the body's energy centres (chakras) to release emotional blocks and provide relaxation and grounding – perfect for stressful lives. Guests are given the opportunity to choose their own oil blend which is then used in a rhythmic one hour aromatherapy massage.

The two signature treatments are also being offered in combination.

The signature treatments will be supported by an extensive treatment menu utilising two highly regarded international product ranges – Phyts, a French organic skincare range that uses essential oils to heal and renew tired skin and Eminence, an Hungarian handmade organic range that uses fruit, vegetables, plants and herbs to feed, nourish and repair ageing and environmentally damaged skin.

These products will be found in a wide range of facial and body treatments including the Eminence Yam and Pumpkin Enzyme Peel, the Cherry Truffle Body Treat, and the Pearfect Body Wrap which also includes sugar cane and finishes with a pear and green apple massage souffle!

Spa Qualia will also distinguish itself with mindfulness and wellbeing treatments. Helena has been meditating for over 15 years and has brought this discipline to the Spa in the form of a Meditation Pavilion which can be used for yoga and meditation. Yoga mats, meditation cushions and shawls are all provided for guests who wish to book private time in the Pavilion. A 2.5 hour stretching , meditation and Chakratherapy Massage using the Anoint essential oils is also being offered.

Helena’s 25 years in the beauty and natural medicine industries is complemented by a highly qualified male/female team of therapists who have worked in Australia and overseas and have come to understand what guests at a luxury Resort such as Qualia are looking for in a world class spa.

Spa Qualia and Qualia open at then end of August, 2007. Bookings can be made at www.qualia.com.au or by emailing qualia@hamiltonisland.com.au.
