Storm Watching, Star Gazing and Northern Lights at Borve Lodge Estate

Storm Watching, Star Gazing and Northern Lights at Borve Lodge Estate
The ever-changing ocean sits just 200 meters from Borve Lodge, and on any day, guests may experience extreme variability, be it squalls, hail and pristine blue skies. With a fetch of some 3,000 miles -- the next landmass being North America -- waves reliably slam up against the Atlantic shelf to deliver a fury that is rare to witness in the British Isles. The lodge itself sits in a commanding coastal location, offering true wildness through a never-ending panorama of the Atlantic and sweeping views along the West Harris coast.

During the day guests can head out for full immersion in the elements through hill walking, beach combing or just pondering the majesty of one of Europe's last great wilderness, and at night, an absence of light pollution makes the estate a wonderful location for star-gazing and for viewing the waterfall of colors that is the Aurora Borealis.

Borve Lodge Estate

After embracing the elements, there are few better places to retreat than Borve Lodge itself. Recently renovated, the Lodge offers superlative comfort and stylish interiors for up to 14 guests under the care of Estate Manager and former Scots Guardsman, Steve Woodall. The lodge's private chef prepares meals with fresh ingredients sourced from the sea and land, and when the feasting is over, there are few better places to sink into a sofa than in the Banquet Hall, with an open peat fire blazing, the rain beating against the panes, and a dram of whisky in hand.

Seven nights at Borve Lodge, on a fully catered basis (excluding alcohol) for up to 14 guests, starts from £16,000 (£1,142 per person, per week). This includes Scottish breakfast, packed luncheons, afternoon tea and a three course dinner every evening, as well as the services of the estate chef, hostess and housekeeping. The price also includes access to the full range of estate activities (subject to weather) and staff, including use of a landing craft for trips to local beaches.

Self-catering cottages The Broch (sleeps 2) and The Rock House (sleeps 2) are also available from £514 for 3 nights.
