Summer Wilderness Workshops at Montana's The Resort at Paws Up

Summer Wilderness Workshops at Montana's The Resort at Paws Up
The resort is celebrating their 10th Anniversary throughout the 2015 season and as a result, has developed an expanded program of workshops in honor of the celebration. Many of the Wilderness Workshops are an added value for Paws Up's guests throughout the summer season and offer the opportunity to develop a new skill, perfect a craft or experience something completely new as a family. Please see highlights below:

Art of The Apple Pie: July 3 and 5, 2015

There's nothing more American than apple pie, especially when prepared, baked and enjoyed at America's most authentic ranch resort. Guests will join Kate McDermott, known as the “pie whisperer” for a series of workshops dedicated to the art of making apple pie. In this workshop guests will learn the lifetime skill of how to make great crust and apple filling, hear pie lore and much more. Kate conducts multi-day pie camps on Whidbey Island and half-day Art of the Pie workshops at her home, Pie Cottage, in Port Angeles, WA, as well as all around the world.

Mind, Body, Equine: July 8–12, 2015

NEW for 2015: Both yoga and horsemanship require you to be present in the moment and in tune with your entire body. Practicing yoga makes you a better rider because it teaches you to move with more grace, patience, strength, and balance; all of which gets communicated to your horse and improves the flow of the experience for both. Classwork takes place both in the saddle and on the mat. Cathy Woods is a long-time yoga instructor, life-skills teacher and equine enthusiast. She has been teaching yoga and life skills retreats nationally for 24 years.

Great Scotts Drum Circle Madness: July 11-24 and August 16-23, 2015

For the whole family: musicians Scott Besaw and Scott Schaefer will join Paws Up for multiple weeks of fun and unique music. The "Great Scotts" will conduct drum circles and sing-a-long activities for both kids and adults alike. Scott Besaw has been performing for kids camps around the country, teaching kids at The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, and performing at various Chicago hot spots for years. Note: they are available to book for private guitar and drum lessons while on property.

Starry Night Photography: July 29 - August 3, 2015

Join award winning photographer and Cowgirl Hall of Fame honoree Barbara Van Cleve for special photography workshop under the stars. Barbara specializes in American West imagery and is known for her beautiful nighttime photography. The Starry Night Workshop is for beginner photographers interested in learning digital camera techniques. Barbara will help guests understand the various settings and features of your camera and teach you how to produce emotional, dramatic photographs with camera lenses and filters. Participants will be shooting extensively in moonlight and starlight (weather permitting). The Starry Night Workshop will show guests new ways of visualizing and conceptualizing the images they want to capture and share from the road.

Modern Pioneering Wilderness Workshop: August 6-8, 2015

NEW for 2015: Chef, author, and outdoor adventure expert Georgia Pellegrini has quickly become a household name, working to help women tap into their modern-day pioneer spirit by teaching them how to grow a small-space garden and cook from it, assemble a self-sufficient pantry and even leading them on Adventure Getaways around the country. One stop she is making this year is Montana as she will be leading a Wilderness Workshop for the first time. Guests will learn to live off of the land a little and while growing capabilities and confidence a lot. Georgia will teach Paws Up guests a number of the pioneer skills she is famous for, such as foraging, cheese making, butchering, pickling, candle making and more.
