Thanda Island Is First Villa To Join Leading Hotels
It is the second property to be featured in Tanzania and the very first villa worldwide to join the collection. Comprising more than 375 hotels in 75 countries, Leading Hotels is one of the largest luxury hotel collections in the world. Members embody the very essence of their destination.

Situated within southern Tanzania's Shungi Mbili Island Marine Reserve, Thanda Island is one of the few truly private tropical islands in the world. Providing absolute exclusivity for families and friends to enjoy on a sole-use basis, it features just one expansive five-bedroom villa comprising an impressive glass rim-flow swimming pool, a boat house-full of water activities, a tennis court and an outdoor cocktail bar. It is surrounded by its own private coral reef, which can be explored in total seclusion with a snorkel and mask straight from the beach.

Off-grid and solar-powered, Thanda Island offers guests an environmentally sensitive, fun and restorative Indian Ocean experience. Eight hectares in size, guests may watch the endangered Green and Hawksbill turtles nesting and their eggs hatching right on the island or catch sight of whale sharks that congregate just south of the Island from October to March. They may also learn about the local Swahili sea-faring culture on nearby Mafia Island and explore its ruins, coconut plantations, lakes as well as the underwater sights of Chole Bay in the Mafia Island Marine Park and the ancient ruins of a newly discovered ‘sunken city', thought to date as far back as 50AD.

Exclusive use of Thanda Island is offered at US$10,000 per night, with a minimum stay of 3-7 nights depending on the season. The all-inclusive rate includes the team of dedicated staff, boat transfers from Mafia Island and all activities offered on the Island along with spa treatments, all meals and drinks including a handpicked selection of wines and champagnes.
