Thanda Island is Named in Conde Nast Traveler Hot List 2017
The relaxed and restorative vacation destination laid out across its own private tropical marine reserve in the Indian Ocean off the coast of mainland Tanzania has been honored as one of the best new properties of 2016 with inclusion on Condé Nast Traveler’s “Hot List 2017”.

Highly anticipated by globe-trotting consumers and travel industry professionals alike, Condé Nast Traveler’s annual “Hot List” awards are compiled by editors and reporters who comb the globe seeking new properties that stand out as the finest in hospitality as well as where travelers are headed next. Indeed, even amid challenging times, travelers continue to seek out new places. The 21st edition of the “Hot List” appears in the magazine’s May 2017 issue, as well as online at CNTraveler.com.

Opened in October 2016, Thanda Island is located within the Shungimbili Island Marine Reserve of southern Tanzania. Families and friends enjoy sole use including an expansive five-bedroom villa with glass rim-flow swimming pool and huge indoor aquarium with sea life to rival what is under the waves. Each fan-cooled, air-conditioned suite features indoor and outdoor showers and direct access to the pristine white-sand beach. The island is surrounded by a private coral reef with an exclusive-use zone extending over a half-mile that can be explored with snorkel and mask straight from the beach. Sailboats, stand-up paddle boards and single and double kayaks are on hand for active types. A powerboat zone outside the Marine Park is perfect for water skiing, jet-skiing, wake-boarding and tubing. Big game fishing is available on a 28-foot reef runner cat off Mafia Island.

There is plenty of natural wonder to go around, too. Depending upon the season, guests can watch turtles nesting and their eggs hatching. Bottlenose dolphins, including a youngster, have recently been spotted off shore. And for the next few months a marine biologist is studying the island to identify even more ways to aid coral growth and support the fish populations, as has recently occurred with black tip reef sharks.

Exclusive use of Thanda Island is offered at US$10,000 per night, with a recommended minimum stay of 3 nights. The all-inclusive rate includes the team of dedicated staff, boat transfers from Mafia Island and all activities offered on the Island, along with all meals and drinks including a handpicked selection of wines and champagnes. Spa treatments, diving, a conservation fee of $120 per person per stay and premium wines and champagnes are extra.
