The Chanler at Cliff Walk, a historic Newport mansion turned luxury boutique hotel, has unveiled a captivating new dining concept, Remy’s Loose, now open for daily lunch and dinner. Led by Executive Chef Jacob Jasinski, Remy’s Loose strikes the perfect balance between flavor and craftsmanship, providing a glimpse into the very heart of The Chanler, where heritage, excellence, curiosity, and inspiration collide to create a gastronomic journey unlike any other.
“This endeavor, which has been one built on years of learning, dreaming, and perfecting the concept of Remy’s Loose, represents the start of an incredibly exciting new chapter for The Chanler at Cliff Walk,” says Proprietress Lani Shufelt. “Every corner of this space has been infused with the heart and soul of our team and interwoven with the heritage of the property and the many lives this home has lived throughout its history. More than a restaurant, Remy’s Loose celebrates the dazzling story of The Chanler, and foreshadows the legacy we hope to continue creating here. Through Remy’s Loose and the robust culinary program we have created at the hotel, we’re redefining the gastronomic experience as one knows it, and have set out to transform and elevate not just the culinary offerings on property, but Newport’s dining scene as a whole.”
Whimsical and alluring with a setting that beckons celebrations of all sizes, Remy’s Loose brings people together in a space that feels like home— comfortable, stylish, and effortlessly cool, with a playful twist on Parisian flair. In collaboration with some of the most renowned names in the architectural and design space, Remy’s Loose is embedded with thoughtful design features that create a cohesive dining, celebrating, and gathering experience. Studio Valerius, founded by Architect Richard Chandler and best known for projects such as Point 7 Restaurant at the Landmark MetLife building and working with Danny Meyers’ on Daily Provisions and Union Square Café, led the interior design concept, creating a welcoming and stylish space perfectly suited for everything from lively conversations to seaside solace. Each corner of the restaurant exudes warmth while cozy banquettes, soft lighting curated by BOLD, and artful touches create an inviting dining room setting designed to put guests at ease. A picturesque terrace with endless ocean views sets the scene for alfresco dining and sunset cocktails, and an open kitchen layout conceptualized by influential food service design firm Next Step Design, whose portfolio includes Le Pavillon by Daniel Boulud, Jean Georges’ Tin Building, and Three Michelin Star restaurant The Inn at Little Washington, serves as the star of the show, enabling guests to watch as the culinary magic unfolds before their eyes.
With a personality that exudes the spirit of the cheeky sister to The Chanler’s fine dining menu-less restaurant Cara, Remy’s Loose is meant to be an experience in which culinary discovery may take flight. Masterfully created and curated by The Chanler’s Executive Chef Jacob Jasinski, the menus are both sophisticated and approachable, and made up of plates that can be adapted to any dining style. Defined as intrinsically French cuisine elevated by the bold flavors of coastal Rhode Island, every item on the menu prizes the freshest local catches and thoughtfully sourced ingredients from both nearby and around the world. Guests can delight in everything from Madai Snapper a la Plancha, English Pea Ravioli, Chitarra ‘Fait Maison,’ Caramelized Heirloom Carrot and Spanish Octopus to Parisienne Potato Salad, North Atlantic Fish Crudo, Rhode Island Raised Oysters, Spring Pea Fritters, Tuna Steak ‘au Poivré Salad, Roasted ‘Champignon’ Griddled Cheese, ‘Bouillabaisse’, and so much more. Remy’s Loose also features a beverage program that celebrates garden-inspired cocktails accented with seasonal ingredients, an extensive wine list that highlights both Old and New World producers, perfectly paired to complement the menu’s flavors, and an array of innovative non-alcoholic options.
Paying homage to The Chanler’s longstanding tradition of family, the restaurant is named after the hotels’ Proprietress Lani Shufelt’s niece (who is also Shufelt’s sister, Cara’s, daughter) and marks a monumental moment in which Shufelt, the sole owner and operator of the hotel, brings to life a culmination of her passion for unforgettable luxury experiences, design, storytelling, attention to detail, and unwavering love for the property and its surrounding destination. A home away from home for both guests and locals alike, Remy’s Loose is a testament to the years that The Chanler has spent perfecting the art of hospitality.
Remy’s Loose is officially open, serving lunch daily from 12:00 PM to 2:45 PM and dinner from 5:00 PM to 8:45 PM.
