Toast to February 29th with The Savoy's Iconic Leap Year Cocktail

The Savoy is commemorating this Leap Year with an inventive new twist on its iconic Leap Year Cocktail. Originally created in The Savoy’s American Bar by Head Bartender Harry Craddock on 29th February 1928, and included in the original Savoy Cocktail Book published in 1930, The Leap Year cocktail holds a special place in the hotel’s history and legacy of Leap Year celebrations.

This year’s twist on the Leap Year Cocktail combines 30ml of Hayman’s Gin, 20ml vermouth and 15ml cognac with 15ml orange lemon sherbet, which makes for an irresistibly bitter-sweet finish. With 29th February traditionally being the day on which women could propose to their boyfriends, The Savoy’s Leap Year Cocktail is said to have been responsible for more proposals than any cocktail ever mixed!

Londoners seeking to celebrate this extra day can head to The Savoy hotel and taste-test this delicious tipple at The American Bar, London’s longest surviving cocktail bar.
