Cape Town's Twelve Apostles Hotel Offers World Design Capital Package
Based on the four key themes of African Innovation, Beautiful Things, Today for Tomorrow, and Bridging the Divides, this four-day itinerary showcases Cape Town’s top design attractions and interventions, as well as some of its award-winning restaurants, with the assistance of a private guide. It also includes a four-night stay at Leading Hotels of the World member The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa, with plenty of free time to explore the facilities and enjoy the five-star service which won the hotel the top spot as Cape Town’s "No. 1 Hotel in Service" in the 2013 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards (USA). Guests may wish to book a relaxing treatment at The Spa before enjoying a fine dining experience in Azure Restaurant, where Executive Chef Christo Pretorius creates culinary delights overlooking breathtaking Atlantic Ocean . A relaxing movie night in the hotel’s in-house cinema is the ideal way to round off the first evening in style.

The focus the second day is How Design Shaped Our Past. A private guide takes guests from the foot of Lion’s Head via the District Six Museum to the Slave Lodge and the Oranjezicht City Farm, which has been officially selected as a World Design Capital project. Following lunch at Dear Me Restaurant, spend the afternoon in Langa, Cape Town’s first township, and exploring art at the Maboneng Township Arts Experience – an official World Design Capital project that turns township homes into art galleries. Maboneng is at the heart of the Langa Quarter, another official World Design Capital project seeking to position Langa as one of the new centers of the city. The day concludes with dinner at the award-winning Test Kitchen Restaurant in Cape Town’s Woodstock, a trendy design hub.

On day three, participants spend time exploring How Design is Shaping the Present. The morning is spent exploring the city’s art world with one of its leading artists, John Bauer, as well as Kelvin Cochrane, initiator of the “Grassy Park” Wetlands project. The tour then stops at the V&A Waterfront for lunch at Mondiall, Relais & Châteaux Grand Chef Peter Tempelhoff’s hot new dining destination, before returning to Woodstock to explore the creative developments at the Old Biscuit Mill, the Woodstock Exchange and Side Street Studios. Guests are also able to admire the wealth of street art in the area and meet with up-and-coming designers.

Day four takes a delicious angle with the theme of Wine by Design. The tour takes participants to Cape Town’s wine region, visiting estates that introduced bold design interventions to transform the industry socially, culturally and environmentally. Tastings in Franschhoek and Stellenbosch include stops at Babylonstoren and Spier Wine Estate, which has one of the most extensive art collections in the country, and the Solms Delta Wine Estate, where lunch at the Fyndraai Restaurant also highlights the local cuisine of the region.

The last morning of the tour is spent connecting with fashion and future tech designers in their centrally-located studios and boutiques before the whistle-stop design tour of Cape Town concludes with lunch at hip restaurant and design shop, Hemelhuijs.

The Twelve Apostles Hotel and Spa accommodation starts from $340.00 per room per night and includes full English breakfast with oysters and sparkling wine. This rate excludes transfers to and from the airport, and any meals and beverages.
