Ultimate Family Adventure in Ladakh with Shakti

Ultimate Family Adventure in Ladakh with Shakti
The summer holidays just got better with Shakti Himalaya offering thrilling activities for children traveling to Ladakh. With some availability left for the summer break, swap mainstream tennis lessons and beach clubs in the Med, for exhilarating cultural adventures with your family in this ancient Kingdom.

Situated in the far north of the sub-continent, over 3500 meters up on the high plateau, Ladakh is often referred to as 'little Tibet'. Here, mini adventurers can immerse themselves in the cultural life of the Ladakhis: riding a double-humped Bactrian camel whilst camping in the Nubra valley; making traditional mud bricks; learning the ancient skill of archery with an instructor; and feeling the thrill of white water rafting on the Indus and Zanskar rivers, before settling down for a delicious picnic lunch. Shakti Himalaya has designed a 'village house' experience for families that takes you off the beaten track to untouched villages in the Indus valley to an area not yet on the radar of the adventurous luxury traveller.

For the more mindful, families can spend time with a young monk in the monastery and their living quarters, learning how to meditate, attending morning prayers and shadowing them on their day-to-day activities. Live like a local family and have a go at the traditional game, Santulia, a brilliant hybrid between rounders and Kubb; lunch with a Ladakhi family; learn to make delicious ‘momo’ dumplings; or take part in the time-honoured ritual of a village cricket match.

These exhilarating and insightful activities all take place to the backdrop of Ladakh’s extraordinary landscape - a high altitude desert dominated by rugged, snow-capped mountains and deep turquoise lakes – and its unique cultural identity. The region is one of the most intact Tantric Buddhist societies left on earth, and a fascinating experience for any young traveller. Staying in a combination of Shakti’s village houses, every itinerary is created individually, building a bespoke holiday of experiences, alongside trekking, camping and of course relaxation for the adults.

Shakti Ladakh (available from May to end September annually) offer 7-night journey from US$ 5,892 (£4556) per person based on 2 sharing, and including private accommodation in village houses on a fully inclusive basis including all meals and beverages, all activities including two raft trips, an accompanying English speaking guide, private chef, support guide and porters, car at disposal and taxes with transfers between Leh Airport and the village experience.
