In mid-November, W Hotels will open its second W Retreat & Spa (the first opened in the Maldives in 2006). The W Vieques is the first W Retreat & Spa in the Caribbean and is located eight miles off the Southeast coast of Puerto Rico on the island of Vieques.

W Vieques features a total of 157 guestrooms, 136 with views of the Atlantic Ocean, eight Suites with a garden view, six suites with an ocean view, and six "WOW Suites" that are ocean front and one "Extreme WOW Suite."

The property is home to the first Caribbean resort incursion from acclaimed chef Alain Ducasse, who's held a record three stars in the Michelin Guide in three different countries simultaneously. Dining options include Mix on the Beach, the retreat's signature restaurant, offering a twist on Latin Caribbean and French cuisine; Living Room, serving a wide selection of small plates "tapas style," wines, champagne and signature cocktails; WET, around the pool and beachfront; and W Café, serving light and healthy snacks.

W Vieques offers guests a wide selection of meeting, event and leisure space including the Lawn, an intimate locale adorned with the charm of tropical surroundings; the Great Room, a Caribbean ballroom with large bay windows overlooking the resort grounds; two private beaches; Fire Pit with a campfire atmosphere; and Paradise Edge, a sanctuary with lush landscape dominating the ocean. The 6,000-square-foot Spa Chakra, the retreat’s signature spa, is located in a separate pavilion next to the sea. Spa treatments will be offered in the eight private indoor and outdoor treatment rooms. More than 60 health and beauty therapies will be made available with products from Guerlain Paris selected for W Vieques.

W Retreat & Spa, Vieques Island features a variety of activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving and eco-tours. For fishing aficionados, the island also offers the choice between salt-water fly fishing or boat charters for deep-sea fishing as well as mountain biking and ocean kayaking expeditions and horseback riding off the ocean shore. The island is also home to the Conde de Mirasol Spanish Fort, which has been restored into a Museum of Viequense Art and History of people dating back to the indigenous times, and the Punta Mulas Lighthouse.
