What To Do In Bangkok Before Breakfast?
Only because of jet lag, you don't quite succeed. Your body just won't shut off. It doesn't know where it is yet. You look over at the bedside clock and notice it's early. Like, 4:48 a.m., or some ungodly time like that. And you're wide awake.

What do you do, if you'd rather not just continue to lie there in frustration?

We put that question to Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit's head concierge, Mr. Trai Pradisjusin. Not surprisingly, he had answers. Here are his suggestions for what to do in the City of Angels before breakfast ...

1) Do yoga with locals at Lumpini Park (pictured above), which is about a 20-minute walk from the hotel. This takes place every morning, starting at around 6:30, and is led by trained instructors at no cost (although donations are always welcome!).

Bangkok Wat Pathum Wanaram

2) Head toward Siam Paragon shopping center to reach Wat Pathum Wanaram, where at 6 a.m. you can participate in the giving of alms (food and drink) to local monks. The temple is about a 30-minute walk from the hotel, so try to begin your stroll by 5:30.

Bangkok Benja Kitti Park

3) Go cycling around the lake in Benja Kitti Park near Queen Sirikit Convention Center. This excursion begins at 6 a.m. with a 15-minute walk. Once at the park, rental bicycles are available for THB 20 each.

Bangkok Klong Toey Market

4) Visit Klong Toey Market for a taste of authentic Thailand. Practically unnoticeable from busy Rama IV Road -- about 10 minutes from the hotel by taxi -- this brilliant bazaar is actually quite extensive. Here, you'll find everything from clothing to kitchenware, being sold at extremely affordable prices. A good starting point is the ‘Thai fast food' court, where skilled vendors cook up local favorites such as grilled pork with sticky rice and Pad Thai noodles virtually around the clock (6 a.m. to 2 a.m.).

Bangkok Flower Market

5) Stop and smell the roses at Bangkok Flower Market, about a 30-minute cab ride from the hotel. After a browse around the market -- which is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. -- mosey over to Yodpiman River Walk, and enjoy a local breakfast or coffee from a spot overlooking the iconic Chao Phraya River.
