Wine & Design: Pair Fine Wines with Outstanding Architecture in Bordeaux

Wine lovers and art enthusiasts can now pair visits to exclusive French vineyards and delectable wine tastings with the architectural treasures of the Bordeaux region on a brand new wine and design tour from Wine Paths.

The new Wine and Design Tour takes travelers on a 3-day whirlwind trip around the region of Bordeaux, known for its wine-growing and well-preserved mix of historic and modern architecture. The tour will take guests through the French countryside as they taste local wines, eat at Michelin star restaurants, stay in luxury chateaux and learn about how the success of the wines in this region led to the creation of various architectural masterpieces.

The tour will start in Bordeaux, known as the “City of Art and History” where visitors will be introduced to their first place of architectural significance, the Musée des Arts Décoratifs et du Design on a private tour led by an expert guide. The visit to Bordeaux will be expertly paired with a lunch at Le 7, the panoramic restaurant based in the Cité du Vin with outstanding architecture. Here there’s an opportunity to explore the museum which is entirely dedicated to wine, the culture and related civilizations.

The day will end with a tour of Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey known for producing the unique wine of Sauternes. Here guests will indulge in a dinner at the Michelin star restaurant and spend the night in the Relais & chateaux 5-star Hotel Lalique, one of the beautifully renovated rooms of the chateaux.

On the second day the tour continues as guests drive across the Entre deux Mers region to reach the Pomerol appellation where they will start their day with a private tour and wine tasting at Château Beauregard. The winery itself is beautiful with a 42-acre vineyard which has seen some of the most prestigious wines in the world like Pétrus come to fruition. At the neighboring Château Clinet there will be time for an indulgent wine tasting and guests will be given an introduction into the importance of design by the current President of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux.

Lunch will be eaten atop the cellars of Château La Dominique at La Terrasse Rouge, designed by world-famous architect Jean Nouvel. The panoramic views and modern design bring the surrounding vineyards and cellars of Chateau Cheval Blanc to life providing the perfect backdrop to a delicious meal. Guests will then move on to Château Pavie 1st grand cru classé in Saint-Emilion. This vineyard grows Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes and guests will be able to taste some of these lovely wines. That night will be spent at Château Soutard, newly renovated in keeping with the original style and offering a unique French chateaux experience. The night is rounded off with a visit to the Logis de la Cadène Michelin star restaurant located in the very heart of the medieval village.

On the final day visitors will discover the iconic Medoc wine region where beautiful chateaux were built to showcase the owner’s wealth and quality of the wines they produced. A visit to Château Marquis d’Alesme in Margaux will be in order, the fairy tale chateaux of Pichon Baron and finish at Château Beychevelle in Saint Julien known as the ‘Versailles of the Medoc’ with its inspiring 18th century architecture. The winery offers both incredible wine tasting opportunities along with deluxe bedrooms so guests can experience chateau life.
