Woodlands Inn Partners with Sculpture in the South
The Arts Celebration's main event, the 13th Annual Sculpture in the South Show and Sale will take place in Summerville's Azalea Park on May 14 and 15. There is also a full slate of activities to participate in during the 2nd Annual Arts Education Week, May 7-13, held throughout the historic downtown of Summerville.

The events taking place at the AAA Five Diamond- and Forbes Five Star-rated Woodlands include:

Through May 13 – Over 15 sculptures are now located throughout the historic public areas of Woodlands Inn as part of the festival's “Show & Sale Preview Exhibit.” This exhibit features bronze sculptures by 10 of the 38 world-class sculptors who will in attendance on May 14 and 15. All the sculptures at Woodlands are available for purchase, and proceeds benefit the installation of future sculptures for Summerville's Permanent Public Sculpture Collection. Since 1999, this program has helped install 21 pieces of sculpture throughout the town.

May 9 and 10 – This one- or two-day “Plein Air” painting workshop will be held daily from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. by Heiner Hertling, the Emmy Nominated Host/Artist of PBS' “Your Brush with Nature.” Open to those 18 and above, each student will bring home a completed painting, learn how to block in a landscape, design a pleasing composition and use color theory to create depth. The class is for beginners and advanced students alike. Cost: one day - $140 per person; two days - $265 per person.

May 10 – From 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., the talented team at Woodlands will lead a Culinary Academy. Priced at $75 per person, it will feature a tour of the kitchen and chef's garden; time spent learning culinary techniques; and then preparing and eating lunch – all while sipping wine selected by Woodlands Inn's sommelier.

Other regular arts-based activities at Woodlands include outdoor bagpipe performances (with complimentary champagne), live jazz, a guided phone tour featuring the works of Artist in Residence Rick Reinert, and a special Sunday Brunch at which area artists paint landscapes and mingle with guests. The Inn also recently appointed Emmy Bronson as its Portrait Artist in Residence to capture guests' likeness, especially brides.

Owned by the Linton family of Summerville and managed by Salamander Hospitality, the 18-room hotel is one of only six properties in the United States to hold the Forbes Five Star and AAA Five Diamond ratings for both lodging and dining. Earlier this year, the restored 1906 mansion was ranked as the “World's Best Hotel Value” by readers of Travel + Leisure.
